Default God of War III at GDC 08

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/2599.html

Quote:
The Game Developers Conference is almost upon us, and while certain blockbuster titles like Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots won't be making an appearance, others apparently will.

If you take a look at GameSpot's GDC 2008 games listing, you will find several notable names. Some of them, like Bioshock, Mass Effect, Rock Band, God of War: Chains of Olympus and The Orange Box, you're already familiar with. Heck, all of them are already available at retail stores except for the PSP God of War, which will hit very soon (March 4). Unfortunately, we see nothing about Grand Theft Auto IV, Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 2, or Final Fantasy XIII, and while that may appear depressing, don't miss the big one- God of War III, sitting right there between Twisted Metal: Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition and Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. Now, the only information we have on GoWIII to date says we shouldn't expect the it until 2009...could this mean the game might actually arrive this year?

It would be quite the addition to 2008, and if the Santa Monica team is ready to show off some gameplay (cross your fingers!), God of War III might actually be on tap for Christmas time. Of course, we'd be happy with a brief trailer at this point.

What is the point of this conference? They apparently won't feature any upcoming games that anyone cares about other than GoW3(which looks like it will be amazing, in fairness), and the games they will feature..are already released? Do you really need a conference to talk about games that are already out? Seriously..who cares.

Also, as much as I want GoW3 to come out, I don't understand the logic in: "We've been told not to expect the game until 2K9..so hey, maybe that means we'll see it in 2K8!" Seriously, how does that work?

I expect them to take there time with God of War III... there games on the PS2 were the best looking so I don't think it would be out this year, it would be nice tho.

I want Chains of olympus on PS2 above anything else right now.

GOWIII is not going to be available this year, unless of course its going to be shorter than, well something really short.

It will be interesting to see if they keep the fixed cameras of the ps2 generation games, i'd imagine so as it would change the control system too much.

I hope they bring the souls of hades back, I missed them in part 2.

The Wikipedia entry puts it better than I could:

Quote:
The Game Developers Conference (GDC) is the largest annual gathering of professional video game developers, focusing on learning, inspiration, and networking. The event comprises an expo, networking events, awards shows such as the Independent Games Festival and the Game Developers Choice Awards, and a variety of tutorials, lectures, and roundtables by industry professionals on game-related topics covering programming, design, audio, production, business and management, and visual arts. The next conference will take place at the Moscone Center on February 18-22, 2008.
A developer may show a released game to demonstrate an approach/technique that lead to success or failure.

Sometimes you'll see something brand new like home demonstrated because home's success is partly reliant on first and third parties (in the audience) supporting it with their own content. LittleBigPlanet demonstrated innovation and again, perhaps even an opportunity for third parties to produce their own content/levels that would be downloadable to the game to promote their own.

You just need the remember the event's aimed primarily at developers so don't expect a ton of new stuff to be unveiled for our benefit.

There are rumors circulating that Chains of Olympus would be coming to the PS2 eventually.

Thanks for clarifying this for those that had GDC confused with E3 or TGS.

I've had multiple contacts inside Sony tell me that God of War III is not on the cards for 2008.

Either Sony Studios Santa Monica has kept the project under such tight wraps that no one outside of upper management knows about it, or they're not far enough into development to show off anything yet.
