the video card can only output video. you'd need to get a sound card (or use the on-board sound if it's available) for the sound. |

I think I get audio from my GTX680 card. I also use the PS display as a monitor, but I have had headphones for so long I dont remember. But I thought I got sound from it. I will check tonight and let you know

Yes, even the DVI port in most modern graphics card can output audio (as long as you use a DVI-to-HDMI cable you should be fine). AMD (ATI 3000 series or newer) graphics cards are usually plug and play with this implementation, while Nvidia (9000 series or newer) requires you to use the SDPIF output on the card to the motherboard, but shouldn't be too hard to use.
One note, some Nvidia cards may not bitstream DTS-HD or TrueHD (although like the PS3, most current blu-ray software should provide the audio codecs you need. AMD usually does a pretty good job with keeping up as HTPC features, but still check if the cards can bitstream. Last edited by Trogdor2010; 07-23-2012 at 09:01 PM. |

Are you intending on using the integrated graphics with the motherboard for audio? Although you should be able to use a normal Graphics card, I'm not familiar with APUs. If you have a DVI-TO-HDMI cable, it would depend if the APU has a built in audio chip like the stand alone video cards and if you can send audio from the motherboard's DVI port.

If you can't get audio from the DVI output, if I assumed you have your computer and tried, it might be the fault of the motherboard not built with an audio output from DVI. It would be worth a look at cards like the HD 6450 or something similar to it, which offer both DVI and HDMI output for audio. You also may need to uninstall the drivers for the APU and reinstall driver for the new graphics card. Most sound cards are usually analog audio or Optical output. Unless you intend on using surround sound, it might not be worth the investment. I'd assume something like that playstation monitor should have 3.5mm input jack, but if you can use both HDMI and the RCA audio jack, that should work fine. Mkay, then the question should be whether the Playstation monitor can use both HDMI and the RCA jacks at the same time. The RCA converter you mentioned should work fine.
