Default ABC's "Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." (Season 7)

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Complete Final Season Blu-ray

Promo Clip:

According to Deadline, ABC and Marvel are eying an Avengers themed TV Series.

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: After scoring huge at the box-office with its Avengers movie, Marvel is looking to explore the mythology on the small screen too. I’ve learned that Marvel’s TV division is in conversation with ABC and ABC Studios about doing a drama series in the Avengers world. I hear that the the connection to the Avengers franchise would be light as the project is expected to be set in the universe and feature some of its themes and feel but may not include any characters from Joss Whedon’s blockbuster. I hear the project is in a nascent stage, described as “a kernel of an idea,” with a number of scenarios explored, including a high-concept cop show. Marvel has already given the Avengers the animated treatment with Disney XD’s The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the upcoming Avengers Assemble.
Source

I love me some Avengers but I'm not sure how I feel about this. I guess it depends on what characters they decide to bring on.

Official Show Info:

Quote:
Joss Whedon (MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) shows us not all heroes are super with MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual – of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered S.H.I.E.L.D agents – that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world.

Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse, Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog), Jeffrey Bell (Angel, Alias) and Jeph Loeb (Smallville, Lost, Heroes) comes Marvel’s first live-action TV series, MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

The series "No Ordinary Family" was basically the Fantastic Four with some tweaks and using no names... I think if they had just gone ahead and made it the FF it would have done better in the ratings.

I think they could do a TV show well if they wanted. The smart way to go would connect it to the movie universe but feature lesser Avengers/Marvel characters.

They could toss a bone with a cameo from one of the movie guys/gals if they want say in the pilot or something... but mainly focus on the rest.

Well, that'd be a change, the two or three Avengers series we'd already gotten since Disney bought Marvel have all been for Disney Channel/XD.

A live-action SHIELD series that brings in various lesser-known Marvel characters would be pretty cool, but they wouldn't want to spend enough money on it I am sure.

It'll be hard to fit a TV series into the MCU continuity without recasting and scaling things way down for a TV budget.

Fail. No series. Keep the hype for the movies. Plus CW is already doing ARROW.

The CW did Smallville for 10 years... Clark didn't fly, but it wasn't because of the budget since they had lots of other people flying...

Marvel in conjunction with Disney/ABC could work a budget out for a show to air on ABC that would spread the cost out differently than a production company having to sell to another network.

I actually would like to see this happen, and think they could do a good job of it.

Truth be told... they could even have CGI Iron Man do fly-bys in it without having to pay Downey Jr for a guest spot!

I hope if they do actually do this, they might dig deeper in BW (Black Widow) past.

Well, really Arrow is DC not Marvel. Supposedly the Hulk TV series is coming but point taken.

We will be lucky if Arrow will last past 13 episodes. Smallville did because Superman is an icon.

Most of wasted cost with these things is licensing the characters (as fx monies at least generates a return in viewers). If Marvel waives the licensing fees for big brother ABC then this is doable tho I still wouldnt. Odds r it turns out cheesy which undercuts the movies. Id much rather see a SHIELDcentric animated show. Let them introduce characters that way and then realize them on the big screen in live action. U also might get some voice work out the original actors.

I'm still shocked Smallville lasted 10 seasons.

Well, ABC is owned by Disney which also owns Marvel Entertainment. So really there is no middle-man.

Exactly... While they can't make "special" deals that would water-down the licensing values... i.e. they can't sell ABC the rights to Marvel characters for $1 because that would make other networks say "you said the value is $1"...

Paying full value just sends the money in a circle right back where it came from... so a lot of the money spent just disappears in the paperwork... so that the only actual cost to Disney/ABC/Marvel is the money that goes to the people actually putting together the show and F/X departments... so that can make it possible for ABC to have a Marvel show that otherwise would cost more to make.

Also... not all of the Marvel heroes require the uber-level of F/X budget money to pull off... Black Widow is a great example... no F/X budget there... just normal stunt work.

Smallville regularly pulled off multiple hero/villain special effects in multiple episodes in a season... so clearly it can be done.

The key is, they just couldn't have the movie characters on the show OR it would confuse people and water down things for movie fans... because you know they couldn't get the money to put the movie actors on TV.

Though... they could get them for an episode. They could have Cap or Iron Man Downey on the pilot... blow some extra money on that to have them appear to establish the connection... then the TV show is about one of the other groups of Avengers doing work.

ABC Orders S.H.I.E.L.D. Pilot from Marvel; Joss Whedon Will Co-Write and Possibly Direct

While Disney and Marvel’s The Avengers has owned movie screens this year, ABC is looking to bring the peacekeepers of S.H.I.E.L.D. to the small screen. The network (owned by Disney) has greenlit a live-action pilot to showcase the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate (or is it the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division?). And who better to co-write and possibly direct the pilot than the man behind The Avengers, Joss Whedon himself. Whedon will of course be spearheading The Avengers 2, as well as being involved with other features in the Marvel universe. Hit the jump for much more on the first live-action Marvel TV project to be greenlit.

Deadline is reporting that the S.H.I.E.L.D TV show is looking to jump right into production. Whedon will write the pilot along with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, a married couple who were both writers on Dollhouse, Spartacus and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Joss Whedon proved that he had the writing and directing skills to handle The Avengers feature film, but television was his early bread and butter and it’ll be nice to have him back (if only for the pilot).

No details about the pilot or series have been released as of yet. Will we see Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) make a network jump and reprise her role in the new Marvel series? Will the show be in canon with the movies? What time period will they take place in? (I ask this last question because I’m curious if we could ever see some Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) screen time.) And what about Nick Fury? Will the major heroes and villains make appearances or will the series focus on some of the smaller goodies and baddies who haven’t been introduced yet? As far as I’m concerned, the sky’s the limit, and with Whedon on board, there’s a good chance we’ll get to see an expansion of the Marvel universe on the small screen while we wait for future features. (Excelsior!) Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Could be a fantastic show. S.H.I.E.L.D. has its nose in everyone's business. No reason this can't be an exciting show. Wouldn't mind some crossover episodes (or "special guest star" episodes, should I say) and cameos.

The big question is... will they land Samuel L Jackson for at least guest spots?

Lawrence Fishburn was on CSI for a while... so big names do sign on for TV even while getting movie work...

We had a short taste of what this show can be on The Avengers Blu-ray with that short movie "Item 47" . I watched that yesterday and if that's how the show is going to be, it could work. S.H.I.E.L.D agents cleaning up the scene after a fight of the Avengers, or retrieving items that got lost.

Dude, Jackson is a bad ass and a smart business man. He would fully do those cameos and not expect a shitload of money ala Connor in Highlander.
