True enough, I'll post something up for that. These two are Attenborough titles.

Nah, it's alright. Sir David's done so many "Life" series, it's understandable

I never thought we'd ever see Life on Earth get a Blu-Ray release! Great news! David Attenborough is one of my heroes and his reply to my fan mail is one of my most precious possessions.

This is excellent news. It is a shame however, that, knowing the BBC, they will have mastered these at 1080/50i as they did with Civilisation. I wish they would master their shot on film material in 1080p23.976.

I will buy them regardless. Life on Earth has never even been released on DVD in the USA.

EDIT: And neither, it seems, has The Trials of Life!

I've been wondering if there will be a US/UK release of First Life.

According to the BVA site, one of these (I forget which one, and the site is down as of this post) is merely a best moments compilation running at 150 minutes, although considering the pricing, it's not all that surprising.

I can see that in the cache for Life on Earth, hopefully it is some sort of error.

If that is the case, that would be highly disrespectful. The BBC thought highly enough of Civilisation to release the entire thirteen-part series (at the same price) and it would be ignorant to release a shorter version of any of their other documentaries.

Agreed. Especially if the DVD was presented in its entirety. I'd hate to have a less than stellar version of Sir David's documentaries.

Also the release date for both appears to be November 5, according to the BVA, though Amazon still says September 24.

Note: http://www.bva.org.uk/node/1909263 - Life on Earth- 150 minutes (A compliation)

This is very disappointing, and I think Trials of Life might go the same way.

Perhaps an email to 2|entertain might clear things up.

I don't really understand the whole "film" part of films, as in, what they are shot on. Is it different for documentaries? Because I see films like Psycho and 60's Bonds being released on Blu Ray, but yet programs like Blue Planet don't get released. I know Blue Planet wasn't "shot in HD" or something but surely it could be remastered? I mean if these are coming out then I don't see why not.

Because The Blue Planet was filmed with a mixture of film (outside of the water) and SD Video (underwater). They could scan the original film to produce an HD master but the underwater sections (most of the series) could only ever be upscaled

No problem. This is great news, I'm pretty sure Sir David himself wouldn't've been pleased if they were half-releases.
