Universal Studios Dr Seuss' The Lorax (2012) Blu-ray 3D [Region Free]

Dr Seuss The Lorax 3D Blu-ray review

I see that this is being released soon in the US. Does anyone know if this is being released in the UK at some point?

Otherwise, is it possible to rip a Region A disc using DVDFab 3D ripper (which I have) from my Blu-ray drive? Is it the drive that is regional restricted or is that purely a software thing?

I might want to buy this and then watch it in SBS format as I remember the 3D looking excellent in the trailer.

Kenneth Brown gives Region A's 3D BD video-quality a "Flawless" (5.0) presentation.
Reviewed by Kenneth Brown, August 3, 2012

Quote:
Dr. Seuss' The Lorax 3D Blu-ray, Video Quality

The Lorax is a bit more fun in 3D thanks to a wild ride of a 1080p/MVC-encoded video presentation which is, by my estimation, flawless. Thneedville rises up and wraps around its citizenry and whoever might be lucky enough to be wearing a pair of 3D glasses. The Once-ler hurtles down an all-too-deadly river with dizzying speed. Axes swing across the foreground, the Lorax's furry fingers stretch out of the screen, uni-scooters screech to a halt beyond the bounds of the display, factories loom in the distance, a citywide car chase is as dazzling as it is invigorating... the 3D is as enveloping as it is deftly employed. There also isn't a hint of aliasing or any other issue exclusive to the 3D presentation, and even those whose displays are prone to crosstalk will be pleased with the remarkable dimensionality and precision of the 3D image. Those whose displays aren't prone to crosstalk are in for an even greater treat: a 3D experience that takes full advantage of its potential and doesn't falter.
Can't wait for my 3D fix on Tuesday!; A bonus to my anticipated excitement, especially when the story is given only 2½ stars.

Paul

An idea before its time, the Lorax is a mythological-style creature Dr. Seuss invented and fabricated for a children's story, representing the public awareness "advocator" for environmental abuse issues affecting the way of life and speaking-out to prevent extinction of many types of life on the planet.

Danny Devito is the star as the Lorax. Is this the movie where the kid wonders where all of the trees disappeared to and the girl has one in her yard? That part looked interesting story wise.

The 3D was good from the theatrical 3D trailer when I saw it.

I'd like to see a Dr. Seuss movie released that actually captures the flat color style of his drawings, unlike this and Horton, in which both are well shaded visually. That Dr. Seuss show on PBS captures the style, but that's Flash animation, not CGI.

has anyone here seen Lorax in 3D in theaters?

I am wondering if it is worth a blind buy since we are in a 3D drought right now.

Not sure if I should get it or not. I will be at Best Buy tomorrow morning anyway.

I had this on pre order over on Amazon. It was a nice sight to see that the price has dropped to $25 CND for the 3D version.

I should have my copy tomorrow

My mom took my kids to see it(ages 5 & 7). They got so bored, they walked out half way through(never happened before). I can't give my opinion, because I haven't seen it, but that's not a good recommendation.

Loved the animation of "The Lorax" in the original special on television and went to the 3D-version of the movie @ the theater. Very hard to tell if it would be worth it for you. As Zivouhr stated earlier in post #6, and I fully agree:

I'm getting the release for the 3D-thrill experience. Hope the length of the feature doesn't disappoint as it was a detraction for me theatrically.

Also, there are 3 Dr. Seuss' All-New Mini-movies as bonus extras included in the BD combo packs: "Forces of Nature", "Wagon-Ho", and "Serenade". It doesn't mention in the advertisements if they will be in 3D, on the 3D combo version, so probably not.

I nearly walked out on the movie. I HATED it and thought it was a huge disappointment considering that the Illumination Entertainment made an AMAZING first movie with Despicable Me. The Lorax just felt lazy, obnoxious, and entirely against the spirit of Dr. Seuss *sigh*

Well, as I've never read of any of Dr. Seuss' work, I'd be going into this movie with no comparisons or expectations.

Sometimes, I think that's the best way!!

My copy from Amazon should be here today....not sure when I'll get to watch it though. Surprised Amazon didn't match Target's price of $24.99 for this. I suppose they might by the end of the day. Still $27.99 on there at the moment.

I went to Target this morning at 9 am and picked up the Lorax 3D exclusive with the mustache. The packaging very much matches that of Target's Goggles-exclusive edition of Despicable Me. They actually display nicely side by side. Now I am reluctant to open it. Perhaps I will look for a cheap Lorax 3D BD disc only on the trading forum.

I really want to grab this as I am a huge fan of the original Lorax book and "cartoon". I've made a habit of setting my bluray purchases $19.99 and under, the review gives such high praise to the 3d its making it difficult for me to stick to my rule. I have a few days to decide.. if its anything like the pricing for Despicable Me 3d, I better jump on it soon before it skyrockets.

The Target by me only had 8 mustache 3D editions on the shelf. If you really want this thing do not drag your Lorass on the ground or you'll get burned. Cough up the extra $5 and make yourself happy. If budget is an issue just skip one McDonald's Crappy Meal this week and get the Lorax 3D BD right away.

I picked up mine at Best Buy earlier today. Did the U&S and redeemed $20 from Shopkick so walked out with only $4.99+tax. Looking forward to watch this since I missed it at the Theater and heard great reviews on the movie and 3D. The BB exclusive comes with a finger puppet of Lorax. My son loves it.

Just bought this movie at the PX today here in Germany.

Loved the graphics, and colors. They look great in High Def.

Watching it with my daughter. We both enjoyed the film, but
the 3d was mainly for adults(just lots of good depth). There wasn't too many pop outs at all. My daughter asked at one point "Is this really in 3d"?

I guess she is spoiled because of Sammy.

The film is modern take on the old book, and a little silly. We still loved
Betty White's Grandma character. Over the top, maybe, but
a lot of fun.

This is going to be hit or miss here with this one.

Price match Target's $24.99 price at Best Buy and use the $5 upgrade coupon and get it for $19.99.
