I see that three Chuck Norris films were released in Oz last month - Good Guys Wear Black, The Octagon & A Force of One. Can anyone who has them post some info on PQ, AQ & extras?

Also, how do they compare to the newly-released UK versions?

The Walmart Chuck Norris thread in the North American section has some screenshots from the Good Guys Wear Black Blu-Ray and it looks very good indeed.

Finally, some Norris hits Blu-Ray. I hope they make there way over to New Zealand.. although the UK covers look quite nice.

I'm pretty sure they are the same, judging by the links you provided. The PQ is good, way, way better than the old R1 DVDs i had, but nothing that is going to blow your mind...i'd give it 3/5.

Generally I don't give a rat's ass for IMDB's ratings... but a score of 4.7 really makes you wonder...

Judging by the screenshots, Good Guys Wear Black appears to be an upscale, unlike The Octagon & A Force of One.

Just put together a quick review of these three titles:

The Octagon:

Region B Locked. BD25
Video 1.78:1 AVC Encode. Running Time 1:44:03

Very grainy video with a lot of dust, dirt & scratches. Very little DNR applied and picture quality is very sharp, certainly a lot better than it deserves. Definately the best looking of the three. Video 8.5/10.

Audio DTS-HD MA 5.1 & DD 5.1 Audio is as you'd expect, pretty flat with little surround action. Probably very true to the original, so Audio: 8/10.

Extras:

• Making of the Octagon, SD, PAL, 40 mins
• How American Cinema Changed Hollywood Forever, SD, PAL, 28 mins
• The Octagon Trailer SD, PAL, 2 mins
• The Octagon TV Spot SD, PAL, 32 seconds

Good Guys Wear Black

Region B Locked Only. BD25
Video: 1.78:1 AVC Encode. Running Time: 1:35:34

Looks like a moderate amount of DNR has been applied as grain appears to be smothered almost completely away. Obvious halos appear throughout from a judicious amount of over-sharpening.

Dust, dirt & scratches also make this obvious no major restoration has been attempted. Picture quality is not too bad, considering. Video: 6/10.

Audio DTS-HD MA 5.1 & DD 5.1 Probably very true to the original, so Audio: 8/10.

Force of One

Region B Locked Only. BD 25
Video 1.78:1 AVC Encode. Running Time 1:31:00

Fine level of grain with few instances of dust, dirt & scratches. Looks like a mild amount of DNR applied with little sharpening. Did NOT look like an upscale to me. Video 7/10

Audio DTS-HD MA 5.1 & DD 5.1 Audio is as you'd expect, pretty flat with little surround action. Probably very true to the original, so Audio: 8/10.

Wow those are nice extras

Yeah Good Guys Wear Black is just an upscale. The night scene featuring the Black Tigers looked butt ugly. The rest PQ was ok but not HD. 2.5/5

Still yet to watch Octogon & Force of one. Have the walmart triple pack BD incoming from ebay.
