Default Studios and international distribution...

Sorry if this question has been posted before but i could not find it on the forum.

I'am wondering wy some films in the eu are for example warner movies and in the usa Buena vista?

for example The prestigde.

I want this movie, but the usa verion doesn't work in my ps3, so i have to buy it over here. But the us version is Buena Vista en had avc codec, with pcm 5.1/ 24 bit. The european version is warner, and has vc-1 codec and only a dd 5.1 track on it. So can anyone tell me wy?

Again sorry if this question is allready being posted.

Different studios can have distribution rights in different parts of the world.

When a studio has the distribution rights it is up to them to determine how they want to encode it. There is not a master encode that is shared between the companies. Each studio must determine if it makes sense for them to release a movie where they have the ability to distribute it based on their assessment of market demand. Then they develop it as they see fit.

Which would explain the horrible release of the Crow on BD in England.
