Exclamation Why I reckon we'll see a few HUGE releases.

As Blu-ray's just won, it's in the news at the moment - millions of people who've been sitting on the fence now know which format to go for. All they need is one .. little .. push.

It makes total marketing sense to release something HUGE to get awareness, I'm talking one or two absolutely MUST HAVE movies - big enough to make them get up and go and buy a player - and probably not a movie they've seen in the last year or so - they need something that absolutely needs that big movie, hi-def experience.

And my money's on an April release of the Indiana Jones Trilogy - in a fantastic boxed set just ready for the new movie in May.

Lucasfilm are separate to Paramount, and can release on any format they want - whenever they want. There was talk of the trilogy on HD-DVD - but obviously that's out now.

And just imagine how good they'd look...

I think it'll be the Bourne movies. They are newer than the Indiana Jones movies, and many of the comments I read on here breathlessly mention the Bourne series of films.

Don't get me wrong, though... I can't wait for the Indiana Jones movies to come out on Blu.

True, but the trilogy is already out on HD-DVD, and it never really got the fanfare it deserved - in HD terms, it might be old news. Much as I love it, do they really show off HD superiority? I reckon Indy's the trilogy that people would use to show off their new TV and Blu-Ray..

But bring on both!

Also the general populace will be more easily swayed by Indy, I think. Moreso than Bourne. Bourne's good. Indy's better.

The general populace gets swayed by one thing: FREE.

Those four letters are what will lead to mass adoption. Hopefully Best Buy and other retailers will continue free Blu-Ray player promotions with new HDTV's through next holiday season. Then maybe we'll see a change. Your average consumer isn't going to be swayed a movie they already have on DVD, and unless studios drop DVD support(not gonna happen) they can still get new releases cheaper that will play on they devices they already have.

yes indy 4 was being prep for a blu release. It was in one of the main new articles on the front page during CES. I believe it was in the article that dealt with THX. Indy 4 is coming and will be here this year on blu. And all signs are pointing to either a box set or possible a release of the older ones to go along with the release of the 4th. Time will tell.

Oh come on... that's just mean. Not everyone from the south is a hick, even the ones who use the term "reckon". But your ideas are pretty closely tied... the American south has more cultural, behavioral and linguistic similarities to our English colonizers than New England does! Don't believe me? Go visit Savannah, GA.

Universal is supposedly putting out new releases and Blu-ray versions of their HD DVD library first, so I'd imagine we'll get some goodies in the coming months.

They're releasing the Indy trilogy as "Special Editions" on standard DVDs on May 13, to coincide with the new movie.

I'm guessing we'll see the Indy Quadrilogy (with the new movie) on blu-ray in November. Blu-ray.com has reported early this year that they're already prepping Indy 4 for THX-certified blu-ray release.

This has since been pulled from Paramount's schedule. Might mean good things for Blu fans... but I'm not holding my breath.

Oh well. You know they're coming. We'll keep you updated as official details are released.

Obviously if they released big movies like:

Star Wars (Saga)
Lord of the Rings (trilogy)

It would make tons of people go out and buy one.

There are a lot of big Universal and Paramount movies that are just waiting to see Blu-ray.

I'm not optimistic about the titans like LOTR or Star Wars, I think they will wait until more of the movie-buying public is blu-equipped. I keep thinking back to how long it took to get Star Wars on DVD.

I can see the three Indiana Jones movies being released though to go along with the new one. One can hope!
