Look what HD -DUD people told the world at their CEBIT Press Conference...
"....... Jordi Ribas, senior director of HD DVD consumer media technology at Microsoft, said the format beat rival Blu-ray in every category that users care about. “It's the logical format for everyone, not only because it's cheaper. It also provides better audio, better video and better interactivity,” said Ribas. “Maybe some of you will go to another event later today where you'll hear more about great studio support,” he added, referring to this evening's Blu-ray conference, “but we have more titles and more studios than anyone else. We also have the technical benefits, including combo discs, which you can play in HD DVD players and older DVD players. This is a unique benefit for HD DVD.” Ribas said Europe's leading laptop makers have also backed HD DVD – with Toshiba, HP, Acer, Samsung and Asus all supporting the format. That means five of the top six laptop brands in Europe offer HD DVD compatible systems. Furthermore, Ribas revealed that the HD DVD attachment for the Xbox 360 has been a huge success - it's already the best-selling $100+ accessory ever for the console. But Europe remains some way behind the US in terms of next-generation DVD adoption. Universal Studios executive vice president Ken Graffeo said that in the US “we're already seeing HD DVD moving from early adopters to the early majority”. Around 40 percent of US HD DVD households buy a new disc every week, he added. And while the launch of the PlayStation 3 gives Blu-ray a five-to-one hardware advantage over HD DVD in the US, Graffeo said HD DVD backers are extremely confident that the latter standard will win out. “While it's too early to predict victory, we're confident HD DVD will do as well in Europe as in the US.” By the end of Q1 2007, more than 100 HD DVD titles will be available in Europe. That figure is expected to reach 300 by the end of the year. " Are they going crazy, or what kind of stuff do they eat....? I mean, don`t they care for reality....? ![]() |

After all the stuff I read online I am not surprised. More spinning, more lies, more BS. How is the trend in Germany? Here in Switzerland there are still some resellers that push HD-DVD. I flipped through some German AV/HT magazines and noticed a definite undertone towards HD-DVD.

Actually a poor attempt by Microsoft standards, where is that M$ VP when you need him, if you want spin he has more spin than a propeller on a plane, I guess he is too busy lowering the data rate.
At least we are getting a good laugh at his expense. Now you have posted it here - it can't be easily removed so it can be dragged out for another laugh at a later date. |

“It's the logical format for everyone, not only because it's cheaper. It also provides better audio, better video and better interactivity,” said Ribas.
*LMFAO* Is this guy on crack!?? I own both formats, no doubt I give the better format to Blu-ray with better audio, video & interactivity. Blu-ray has a unique look to each of their movie, not like the Universal iHD crap where all their movies have the same interface, being able to change colors of the car in the movie or book mark a scene and sending it to your friends via internet, big frickin' deal... I could care less about that crap. AVC MPEG-4 is looking equal or better then VC-1. PCM vs THD, both are uncompressed audio codec, PCM (blu-ray) has many more discs with this codec compare to THD (HD-DVD)... never figure Microsoft's PR would stoop as low as the HD-DVD camp as the crooks they are... |

Wow, some of those comments are more than unbelievable, more than delusional. His format is getting it's ars handed to it and he says this stuff? I know you have to push your format and all, but it must be personally embarrasing to have to go out and do this when everyone knows the sales figures.

Look what I´ve found at Motley Fool..... Interesting... :-)
"Blu-ray Takes the Lead By Dan Bloom March 15, 2007 Electronics giant Sony (NYSE: SNE) had a rough 2006. Laptop batteries that it had supplied to Dell (Nasdaq: DELL), Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), and Toshiba had to be recalled. The PlayStation 3 debut was held up by manufacturing issues. Finally, its new high-definition disc format, called Blu-ray, suffered due to the launch of the rival format HD DVD, which is backed by Toshiba. Things may be changing for the better for Sony on at least one front this year, as its Blu-ray format appears to be taking the lead over HD DVD. According to an article in Home Media Magazine, which references research done by Understanding & Solutions, for each HD DVD movie that is sold consumers are springing for three Blu-ray titles. High-definition movie sales have done a 180-degree turn since the PS3 launch: Before the PS3 came out, HD DVD movies outsold their Blu-ray counterparts by about three to one. Sony was criticized for building the Blu-ray player into its PS3 rather than following Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) strategy of offering a player (HD DVD, in this case) as an add-on to its Xbox 360. After all, not everyone that wants to play games on the PS3 cares about high-def movies. Nevertheless, Sony probably figured that forcing the Blu-ray player down gamers' throats would ensure that there were lots of Blu-ray players in the world's living rooms, which would help get its Blu-ray format off the ground at some point. It appears to be doing just that. So will the Blu-ray lead continue? The cards seem to be stacking firmly in Blu-ray's favor. Although a stand-alone Blu-ray disc player is still more expensive than an HD DVD player, prices for the Blu-ray players will certainly come down during the next year. Furthermore, Blu-ray has the support of most movie studios and is getting an extra kick in the pants from Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), which is running a sale on some Blu-ray titles. I have always shuddered at the thought of paying $25-$30 for a movie, high-definition or not, but Amazon has priced some Blu-ray movies below $15. I certainly wouldn't mind if Toshiba would just let HD DVD melt away. Living room consumer electronics are already complicated enough -- you should see the tangle of wires connected to the back of my receiver. The existence of two high-def formats just adds to the complication." In Germany HD-DUD is still far leading, but on a very low low level I think... So let`s see what happens next week.... :-) |

The more MS downplays content and studio support, the more obvious it becomes that they know whats gonna beat them in the end.

Hmmmm...well, I sell electronics and absolutely [I]no one[I] has expressed any interest at all over that 360 HDDVD add on. Better sound? Nope. Cheaper? Where I work both formats cost the exact same price. In my experience, when people know they are losing, they try just that much harder to convince people they are in control, that they are winning. I believe Hitler, for one, did this...draw whatever conclusions you want from that
