Default North and South Mini Series on Blu

What do you think? I imagine this was shot on film?

Starred Patrick Swayze and a host of older Hollywood legends in supporting roles...

Wow that had Johnny Cash in it. Sounds like a good mini series, I'll have to get this from Netflix soon

I want to bump this I was just looking this up and was amazed at the number of top current, past & future stars this had (Johnny Cash, Jimmy Stewart, Olivia de Havilland, Elizabeth Taylor, Jean Simmons, Lloyd Bridges, David Carradine, Peter O'Toole, Billy Dee Williams, Robert Wagner, Wayne Newton etc..) so many of them along with Patrick Swayze are no longer with us. There is just no way you could put together a cast like that today with that kind of star power but then again they don't make stars like that anymore.

I remember watching this when I was a kid and I think this is what got me interested in history and the civil war in general. It also gave me my first celebrity crushes for Genie Francis, Terri Garber and Morgan Fairchild (who still ain't bad lookin')

Since we have begun celebrating the 150th Sesquicentennial of the Civil War it would be nice for North and South at some point over the next five years to get the Blu-ray treatment!

I love North and South as well as The Winds of War and War and Rembrance. Own them all on DVD and would gladly upgrade but I doubt they will be released on blu.

Just picked up Glory, Gettysburg is on the way, and I got to thinking about North and South. I haven't seen it in years, but I'm guessing it was shot on 16mm film? I spent some time on Google, but was unable to find any definitive answers.

Maybe I'll just pick it up on DVD for $20...but I sure would like to have it on blu.

I'm currently in the middle of the series (watching it via renting), and really enjoy it. Amazing series so far. I don't know why I waited so long to rent. I do wish this was released onto bluray. One negative is that the mini-series was filmed in 1.33.1, but that is small potatos, compared to the series as a whole.

Anyone who has not seen this mini-series... the third book of the series is absolute and utter garbage. Don't bother watching it as it will just tick you off!

Yep, very true!!!

When I finished Book 2, I wanted the series to own (it was that good), but once I started Book 3, it just went downhill fast. The first two books are well worth it, but book 3 is so bad, it's embarrassing that they even made it.

No. But it really should be. SOON. No re-framing for 16x9 either!

I watched recently another 80s Civil War mini series, the Blue and the Gray, and really loved it.
I would like this on Bluray too.
Don't know how it compares to the North and the South because I had watched that when i was a child , and don't remember anything.

North and South, The Blue and the Gray, The Winds of War and War and Remembrance - man I'd pay good money to see each and every one of those in HD

As would I. North and South definitely needs a BluRay release and hopefully with a lot of extras.

Let's hope Roots is a success on BLuray and makes Warner consider North and the South too. (and The Thorn birds)

I loved this series when I was a kid.

I can remember watching it on TV during the first airing.

I bought a dvd copy a couple of years ago and watched it for the first time in probably 30 years.

Quite frankly...it's not good.

It's really not good.

...and it hurts me to say that.

You must be crazy! North and South was a great John Jakes Novel series and a wonderful Mini Series. This and Winds of War and War and Remebrance should be on Blu. I think the War minis are still some of the most expensive Made for TV series of all time.
