Default Lair Score Wins IFMCA Award

http://kotaku.com/358331/lair-score-wins-ifmca-award

Quote:
The International Film Music Critics Association have announced their 2007 award winners, and this year sees the debut of their Best Original Score for a Video Game or Interactive Media award, which recognizes the increasing importance of music in gaming and gaming as an entertainment medium. This year's winner is John Debney for the wonderful score to Lar for the PlayStation 3. While I didn't spend much time with the game myself, the music did indeed stand out, to the point where I thought it was a bit wasted on the game. If you'd like to hear this award-winning music without having to shell out $59.99 for a game hardly worth $59.99, then hit up iTunes, where the whole shebang can be yours for $9.99.

The game had its own redeeming values, and it was not as terrible as
many said, I never ran into the issues stating by so many.

i enjoyed Lair, the only thing that tired me out was in the later levels you landed on a pillar or something, and had to shake the six-axis alot to destroy the pillar, that tired me out, I loved the motion sensor in the game, I had no problems flying the dragon.

Well, at least the game accomplished something.

Anyone that thinks this game was worth buying is kidding themselves. I'm not even sure it's worth 39.99. It's definitely not worth 59.99.

Be honest even after renting it, I will buy it one day, I really liked how the flying felt more real then previous dragon flying games, but it missed on being better then DrakenGaurd2

Tired you out like a Wii game?

I'm certainly not kidding myself, because I actually OWN and PLAYED it. Do you OWN it?

I played, and the only sound i heard was my controller being flung around the room in frustration.

Lair is pretty flawed (I own it). The controls aren't the main problem; the lock-on (or lack thereof) is. It's a nightmare to try and pick out the target you want, and even when you DO get the one you want to lock on, the mechanism often fails, leaving you spinning endlessly around a target but unable to attack it.

It sounds like somebody couldn't adapt to a new control system. Maybe you didn't go completely through the thorough tutorial.

The lock-ons did SOMETIMES fail, when already locked-on. You get no argument there. As far as it being an issue locking on to the target you want, don't you think that is a real-life situation? If you were on the back of a dragon...trying to pick a target from a multitude, do you think it would be easy? Did the ads not mention that you would have to work together until you AND dragon are able to fight as one?

Lair being a perfect game wasn't the discussion, but Lair being worth $60 is. I guess that's why we each have our own opinions, right?

To some, the PS3 isn't worth $300. To me, it's worth much more. See what I mean?

The only thing that bothered me about it was how bad the ground troops looked when you got up close to them...

THe motion controls were not too bad, but ultimately they were more of a con than a pro.

Locking on to a peon soldier in a swarm of thousands while the two ton rhino directly in front of me is rampaging through my front lines is not what I'd call good targetting. Why is it even possible for me to lock onto a soldier and fling him?

And the endless-spinning lockon happens WAAAAY too often, even with static targets like those blasted chains in the stealth mission.

True. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who can say Lair was worth $60, though.

The production values were good, but not out of this world. The music was good, but totally overshadowed by an art style that was way too dark, and a user interface that fought you more than it ever needed to.

X-Ninja, was it worth $60 to you? If so, I guess I wasn't too hard pressed to find someone, Iceman.

I loved Lair (or what I played of it). I had trouble with the motion controls however, not because they were faulty, but because I can't keep my hands steady enough.

And yes, I think this game was worth $60.
