confused.com on what to make of this. Why not just PS3 HD style update the lot instead of offering incompatible versions in the collection

Or they could spend the next 10 years re making FF 7 for next gen and have it sell a metric fu*k ton of units when its released

That would probably make them more money than their last 2 FF games combined!

A world of WHAT?!?!?!

I really don't know what to make of this given its simultaneous epicness and failure!

All of these games would be amazing in one nice clean set. However, given the lack of backwards compatibility in such a large percentage of PS3 systems in the user base, how many would actually be able to take advantage of any of the content other than FF13???

My original copy is 3 discs. Perhaps it has something to do with the "International Version?" :shrugs:

Yeah, my original UK copy is 3 discs too. And the Digital version on the Store is only 3 "discs".

Pretty odd.

Nice set for a collector but not too great for a gamer.

Exactly my feelings. Most PS3s don't play PS2 games anymore and i don't know if a single PSP would be a good idea either. I'd rather they update em all in time and release them, which they'll probably do.

I'm with Petra. Epic failure, meets epic win

I would buy this in an instant if all the games were just put on one PS3 disc that plays on PS3.

Game is on 3 discs; the 4th is bonus content, like galleries and character profiles.

hm...does the Japanese square enix e-store ship internationally?

Or do you think sites like nippon-yasan or nin-nin-game will have them on their site soon?

I really want the Ultimania books (even though I preordered The Sky) and I want the art piece that comes with this set.

Sucks that I,II, and IV aren't their PSP versions and X,XII, and XIII aren't their international ones.

That set looks amazing but its ridiculous that they are releasing the PS1 games on multiple PS1 discs. They really should have put those all on one PS3 BR. All of these should have been PS3 ports, especially since current PS3s cant play PS2 discs

A UMD disc? Get real SE...

This is an expensive and ultimately pointless set.

Why not just throw everything on a few BDs??

Using their PS2?

I don't mind that each game has its own disc as opposed to being piled onto several Blu-rays. It's less convenient and more expensive, sure, but considering PS1 games are essentially out-of-print, I think it's cool whenever we have collections like these which are re-releasing them without any tinkering. As for Final Fantasy III arriving solely on PSP, I don't think it got a PS1 release, at least not in Europe? Correct me if I'm wrong, folks.

Its not as if they cant make it playable on a PS3 regardless of the fact that it was on PSP

Newer PS3 will not play a PS2 game. This is the only reason why I can think that Square didn't opt for a 2 disk Blu-ray set for this collection.

But agreed that this an "expensive and ultimately pointless set".

1997
Really?

My copy was only 3 Discs back in 1997. The only one I've seen with 4 discs was the Platinum version that was released in 1998, and all that was was a video demo of FF 8.

But yeah, it offers a fourth disc with information, maps, character sketches, and general trivia about Final Fantasy VII. Thats cool, Japanese got all the cool stuff

The International version of FFVII had 4 discs; all others were 3. Its cool they are going with that one instead as its the most complete package

Just to let people know, the Square Enix JP e-store does not accept debit/credit cards issued overseas.

Sucks...hopefully those import sites get those links up pronto!

Yeah heard about this on other sites. Problem is for the PS2 part of the collection, you'll meed a PS2 console or a PS3 that can playback PS2 (60 or 80 GB fat PS3) because the current PS3 can't playback PS2 disc.
