hey guys,
as a blu-ray supporter i was very happy to hear br winning the fight against hd-dvd. but this takes me to the question: as BR now has the monopoly over HD-Media , the prices might get higher because theirs now battle to win or to be supported by us. i`d like to buy as much as i can but if it will cost me a fortune i will start turning the coin twice... what do you think? greets |

BD (not BR) now has to fight DVD. The studios won't raise it up higher because BD is the new market they want to concentrate on. The same goes to CEs.

But anyone that understand marketing will tell you it's complete BS. As BD adoption goes up prices come down. Now that one format is left adoption should increase thereby lowering SA prices faster then if HD-DVD stayed in the market, (not counting fire sales to spark competition). Since BD has every CE company behind it they are all competing with each other now. And since now the main competition is DVD media prices will come down to stay competitive. BTW you know that DVD has lowered in price over time right? Well after DIvX died it had no real competition. |

To quickly add more adopters to the HD video world, price will continue to drop as well as Studios releasing their "ace" cards to grab consumers into this new market, while hopefully even lowering the actual cost of BD movies some, as Bill Hunt forsees & Entertainment Merchants Association says:
Bill Hunts Statement: The Blu-ray Disc camp DEFINITELY needs to keep prices going down on both players and software in order to get mainstream consumers to jump in with the format. Ideally, there should be at least a few entry level players priced at $299 or better by Christmas. And profile 2.0 support needs to become mandatory and industry wide to end profile/feature confusion. Wouldn't hurt for studios to lower the SRP of movie software $5 either. And here's the Entertainment Merchants Association statement: "Now that consumer confusion concerning dueling formats has ended, it is time for suppliers and retailers to redouble their efforts to bring home the message that Blu-ray discs deliver the finest viewing experience for the world's best entertainment. It is critically important for all content companies to deliver their best new releases and their rich catalog slates to the market in Blu-ray strategically. We believe there is pent up demand for high-definition optical discs in thousands of applications." - Bo Andersen, EMA president |
