Default Finally finished my mini blu ray shelf.

Nothing impressive just wanted to show off my mini shelf to hold some of my blu rays. Holds 64 total movies. Took way too much work to paint the blu ray logo on top... looks decent. Just for those who care to look.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks guys. This is actually just a portion of my collection on this shelf. I have more movies these ones are just here for the sake of the picture. The shelf is actually empty as we speak as my current collection resides on another shelf. Built this one specifically to put my favorite movies on to keep in my movie room and am in the process of deciding which ones to put on it.

Thanks for all the comments.

Nice shelf. Did you use a stencil to paint that BD logo?

I attempted something similar with my DVDs (only using the DVD logo) but it didn't come out well so I ended up painting a white circle (thanks to an old coffee can) and using a skinny brush to paint the letters DVD inside it. Nowadays I don't show it off, as we keep a small fish tank on top of it.

Yes I used a stencil. First I printed a blu ray logo on thicker paper (kind used on sketch pads or index cards) that was the size I needed. I then used an x-acto knife and cut out the pieces of the blu ray logo. I then had them laminated for $2 at the ups store to sure up the edges. Which required me to cut them out again.

I then weighed down the sensitive spots that could drip with bolts and pieces of metal I had laying around. Sprayed 3 coats making sure not to have too extreme of an angle (or you will end up with bleeding paint on the edges).

Then I made another stencil that had the only the middle of the big B, the smaller b, the a, and finally the big D in disk, open to the paint. My advice if you attempt is to be very careful and spray sparingly between coats. Make sure you weigh down the stencils well and use multiple coats (I used 5) of clear to really clean it up.

It was not easy and sounded much quicker in the planning stage. If you have any more questions feel free to ask I will help as best I can.

Lol - yes it won't be long until you have that small shelf filled up Alex - trust me...

I built my own media shelves as well, using 1x6 finish-grade pine lumber from Lowes, adjustable shelf pins, and Luan panels for the backs... my two shelves side by side measure 6' by 6', and they are now completely full of Blu-rays and DVDs - I really need to build a third shelf immediately! Each of the two shelf units only required about two hours labor to construct, but the worst part was painting all the pieces - two coats of primer and two coats of black paint - it took me a good two weeks to finish them both...
