Default Sony BDP-S560 does not play Universal Blus

I own this player since about 2 years now, and I never had any problems with it until a couple of weeks ago. It does not seem to load Universal discs anymore, even though it did so before. At first it helped to take out the external memory stick during the loading process, but even that does not work anymore. The player does recognize the name of the movie, though; it just never manages to move beyond the short Universal loading logo.

All updates have been downloaded, so the player is up to date.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

I had the same problem recently with one of my Sony bluray players I solved it by disconnecting it from the internet.Once I did that my universal movies played fine I think what causes this is when the player is trying to stream information from the universal servers to show the online trailers on the bluray player it corrupts the data.Hope this information helps you.

I have the same model and never cared for "fresh trailers" from the internet, so I turned internet off and all my Universal titles play without a hitch, note that my flash drive is still in for bookmarks and things. Hope it works for you, my 560 has been a trooper from day one and I love it!

Sort of same subject so sorry if not.

I have the S360 and when i pause Universal movies and i dont come back in 10 seconds, the screen goes to a Universal logo (screensaver) and when i push play it doesnt play. The logo just stays there forever. I had to turn the player off 3x now to get the movie to play. Yes the firmware is updated. Universal are the only movies i have any problems with. Had my S360 for 3+ years now. Never an issue. Any ideas?

Thanks for the advice, guys! I will turn the internet off next time I play a Universal movie and see what happens. Your explanation makes sense.

This is neither a new issue nor specific to your player. It's the odd way Universal's screen saver works. Try pressing buttons other than "Play," such as the up or down arrow on your remote. Counterintuitive, yes, but this should work.

Did it work?

No, unfortunately it didn't. I had the player on wireless internet, and I took it off. I also made sure it was really not connected to the internet anymore, so if I try to update the network etc., I get an 'error' information on the connection. Fine, I can always reinstall that, but Universal blus still don't play. I can see the small monochromatic Universal logo circling for a couple of seconds, then the screen turns black again and that's it. Very odd and annoying.

I have a 2012 model S390. I have to press the pop-up menu button to resume playback from Universal's screensaver.
