Thumbs down Wheres MGM?

Did these guys just fall off the face of the earth? Rescue Dawn was last release and according to this site A Bridge too Far is all we got to look forward too? Wheres Silence/Lambs, Hannibal, Platoon, Princess Bride, Red Dawn ( which got postponed). They got to be having problems!

They have no problems at all. They are owned by Sony. MGM is just fine

Fox distributes MGM titles. They are planning a big Father's Day promotion, of which Ronin on Blu is a part.

speaking of mgm, just watched dirty dozen last night. what a classic movie, i'd almost forgotten how good it is.

pq was intermittently iffy, but usually pretty good.

Wrong - Sony owns 20% of MGM - the largest share holder.

Sony Pictures currently distributes MGM/UA and Columbia TriStar co-productions— including the recent Casino Royale—but outside of the co-productions MGM is now actively involved in acquiring worldwide film rights and distributing theatrical motion pictures in the United States. 20th Century Fox will be handling the international theatrical distribution and worldwide home video distribution of MGM titles, excepting those which Sony Pictures acts as majority partner.
Not the most reliable source (Wikipedia), but I believe that it is correct.

^Well, who can argue w/ Wikipedia.

However, Fox DOES distribute MGM Blu-ray titles. When Fox went into hibernation last year, they took MGM w/ them. Also, MGM titles, like Rescue Dawn, have DTSMA, which Fox uses, too.

I know Fox distributes some MGM Blus, but it is a Sony production company.

I do believe that Casino Royale had a SPE tag.

The population of Africa Elephants did triple over the past decade - at least according to Wikipedia.

Just to further muddy the waters: 2001 is an MGM film and it's distributed by Warner.

Fox handles all production and marketing aspects of MGM Blu-ray. That's why you see their copyright screens on their discs.

MGM pulled back most of their catalog releases when they realized the masters weren't up to snuff

All MGM titles prior to 1983 (not UA or later acquisitions) are now ownedby WB, including Ben Hur, Doctor Zhivago, GWTW, 2001 etc

It's all so confusing. I have MGM films distributed by Warner Bros. The one that easily comes to mind as an example is "The Wizard of Oz".

What I want to know isn't who owns MGM but why their new releases are not being released on Blu-ray. Like Lions for Lambs for instance. I know it's not coming out until April but you can pre-order the DVD.... Can't find any mention of it coming out on Blu-ray however.

I usually just remember it from trailers. Plus, I think studio films have a certain "feel" to them that I've always been able to identify . . . that really doesn't make any sense, since the studio really doesn't have much to do with the look/feel of a film, but I've always been able to tell what's a Paramount film, what's a Sony film, etc. Of course with so many sequels it's pretty easy to keep track. Plus, you can find anything with a little bit of research . . . it's really not that hard.

Yes, MGM has an affiliation with Sony, theatrically.

MGM HOME VIDEO distribution is handled by Fox.

Now that I think about it, though, the Rocky Balboa disc is a Sony release . . . IMDB lists Sony as a distributor for DVD only. Strange.

Bet they live with their mom's too. But I like the Angry Video Game Nerd, he's got balls.

I see them mowin', on their front lawn, and they know that I'm thinking that they're so white and nerdy.

How do we know these things?

You can find out a lot of things with a small amount of research.

That is what people do when they want to be right and not called out for making stuff up or plagiarism.
