Default Want New Blu Ray Player please help!

I could use some assitance as I am tired of searching and not finding answers. Let me start with asking when the first profile 2.0 disc is to be released if anyone can answer that for me I would be greatful. In addition I will be looking at upgrading my blu-ray player to a profile 2.0 player, so I am looking for any info people have received on those players. Currently I have a Sony BDP-S1 which has done great and I have had no problems with it just know with profile 2.0 its day will be done shortly. I have thought about the PS3 but hate the idea of the blu-tooth remotes. I have a harmony 880 universal remote that I love and do not want to have to replace. Thanks for your help in advance.

Try getting a Sharp Aquos player (Not the tv). Browse around retail stores and/or ask the members of this forum. Some of these people in these forums sure know what they're talking about that I don't even know about. Like I said, with so much competition around, start asking members in these forums.

the sharp player isn't 2.0 though. in fact, there are NO 2.0 players on the market right now, and the only announced one AFAIK is the panny 50 (as well as the ps3, obviously).

Oh, well then I guess the PS3 and the Panny are best ones yet. The PS3 is the easiest system to use, that's why I got it

The Panasonic DMP-BD50 is coming out this Spring I believe . . . I don't have an exact date, sorry . . . I'm waiting on it too. It's a profile 2.0 player and it has both bitstream support and internal decoding of TrueHD and DTS HDMA. Should be a pretty sweet player.

I'm currently using the PS3 (the only reason I want to upgrade is the bitstreaming and support of all the audio formats, otherwise it's a fantastic player), and the Bluetooth remote works very well. I also use a Harmony, but haven't found using the two together to be that cumbersome.

I just don't want to have to use more than 1 remote. When you have 3 kids its hard enough to keep track of the 1 I do use, plus the girlfriend has a hard enough time understanding electronics too. Kinda some what waiting to see if sony releases a new model for the ps3 or not. I hear there are adapers for the ps3 to make it infared has anyone used one.

I know you can get the infrared remotes for the PS3 and then just use the USB dongle to control it with the Harmony. Kinda ghetto though, IMO. But, from what I've heard, it works fine.

Basically, an internet connection. It's for special features that use the internet to provide new and changing content. Also useful for firmware updates, for those who have players that don't have an ethernet port.

Oh I see, since I own a PS3 I probably won't need BD Live then, right?

well, more precisely, the PS3 is expected to be updated to profile 2.0 (aka BD Live) via a firmware update.

Correct PS3 will get a profile 2.0 update that will give access to all of the interactivity and allow you to use bd live

If the PS3 can easily get a firmware update to make it 2.0, why can't many of these other players?

although the chipsets may be an issue also in this (i really don't know), the bigger obstacle is the hardware. 2.0 requires an ethernet/internet connection as well as a certain amount of local storage... which is not something that's firmware upgradeable.
