Hey all,
I didn't see a dedicated thread for this anywhere, so I figured I would start one. I see we have lots of international Disney discs listed, but we don't have a lot listed from Mainland China. Additionally, it appears that many or all Hong Kong (and Taiwanese) Disney discs feature both Cantonese and Mandarin DUB tracks, usually in lossy quality. I'm wondering: As far as recent Disney animated catalog releases go, are Cantonese and Mandarin DUB tracks only to be found on Mainland Chinese and Hong Kong releases, or do they come on any European or Australian editions also? Also, do the Mainland China versions ever have Chinese-language DUBs in lossless quality? I, personally, am hoping to get Finding Nemo (and possibly Mulan, when it appears) in Mandarin Chinese, and I would like to get the best version of that DUB possible. Thanks, everyone. ![]() |

Are the DUBs ever encoded differently across China, Hong Kong and Taiwan? What I mean is, if the HK release has Mandarin DD 5.1, could the Mainland China disc sport a Mandarin: DTS-HD MA 5.1 track?

Anything goes. You could have one version miss a track completely that is present on the other versions.

In the past (say, before 2004), the Mandarin soundtracks were Taiwan dubbed but today, they are China dubbed (in Shanghai or Beijing) after some locals complained that the Taiwanese accent is disgusting. Hong Kong DVD use Taiwanese specification, that is, the Mandarin soundtrack is Taiwan dubbed. |

Finding Nemo (Region 6 China):
There were quite a lot of editions released in the past, I guess more than 8 editions were released but the major releases were: - 2004 first release (plain 2-disc edition and limited boxset edition): (distributed by CAV Thakral Home Entertainment) Taiwanese dubbed Mandarin soundtrack confirmed. the limited edition bundled with a toy or something. ![]() - 2006 lower price reissue (CAV Thakral Home Entertainment) http://www.gouduo.com/ware.jsp?ware_id=2375 Taiwanese dubbed Mandarin soundtrack - 2007, 2-Disc and 1-Disc release (Excel Media) I'm not too sure about the Mandarin track whether it's china dubbed or taiwan dubbbed. http://www.gouduo.com/ware_11711.html http://www.amazon.cn/%E6%B5%B7%E5%BA...7963110&sr=1-9 (the 2-disc edition comes with a picture book) - 2009 one disc release (Excel Media). This one confirmed that the Mandarin track is the official China theatrical soundtrack http://www.gouduo.com/ware_10518.html (this edition come with photo cards) Last edited by FeiLong; 09-18-2012 at 10:33 AM. |

So, in China there's a three dubbed versions - Mainland-China Mandarin, Taiwanese Mandarin and Cantonese (HK)
Do you maybe know some Disney blu-rays with Mainland-China audio track? Is there maybe older movies (DVD or BR) like "Snow White", "Cinderella", "Sleeping Beauty", "The Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", "The Lion King", "Pocahontas", "Hercules", "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", or new one like "The Princess and the Frog" or "Tangled" with Mainland-China dubbed version? i'm not a fan of Disney cartoon although i watched many of them in the past.
the Mandarin soundtracks in DVDs released in China can be: - The official theatrical Mandarin soundtrack (this type of soundtrack is always the best quality and favored by customers) - China Central Television TV-version soundtrack (this one is also a quality soundtrack) - Taiwanese dubbing (with Taiwanese accent and Taiwanese slangs that some Mainland Chinese may not understand) - low-budget third party studio dubbing The last option, the 3rd party low budget Mandarin dub, often found in non-popular foreign films China version DVDs, is the worst one among all. One of the big problems is that, one guy often do multiple voices, audiences get confused without looking at the picture. Secondly, the translations are often long-winded and dialogues are in high-speed that most people find it very difficult to follow the plot... Disney DVDs released in China, if it's an animation, most of them are either Taiwanese dub or China Theatrical dub, never the last option. There's no rule a particular BD/DVD title adopt which type of Mandarin soundtracks. A film that has been officially screened at cinemas in China and the official China Mandarin soundtrack is available doesn't mean that the BD/DVD releases will use the official soundtracks. E.G.#1: Wall-E DVD releases (2009 / Excel Media) Two Discs: http://www.gouduo.com/ware_10513.html One Disc with cards: http://www.gouduo.com/ware_10515.html One Disc plain: http://www.gouduo.com/ware_10519.html Bluray: http://www.gouduo.com/ware_11438.html All of them contain the same Taiwanese Mandarin track. A friend of mine bought both DVD and Blu-ray and found that the official China theatrical soundtrack is not available and pissed and asked for refund. E.G #2: Bolt DVD release use the Official China Theatrical Mandarin track. http://www.gouduo.com/ware_11061.html 2D Blu-ray use taiwanese track http://www.gouduo.com/ware_11525.html 3D Blu-ray... I am not sure http://www.gouduo.com/ware_16147.html Last edited by FeiLong; 09-24-2012 at 09:04 AM. |

Here is the information for Snow White Official DVDs/BDs in China. Please note that this 1937 production is in the Public Domain category in China, that means, the copyright protection expired and everybody can release this film legally. Therefore, there so many Snow White DVDs found in China. They are all "legal" !! However, the official DVDs and BDs that Disney released in China are those distributed by Excel Media (or by CAV Thakral before 2006) (DVD format always Region 6 & NTSC) - 2010 One-Disc plain DVD (Excel Media / R6 / English 5.1 & Mandarin 2.0) Mandarin track is China dubbed http://www.gouduo.com/ware_13248.html - 2010 Two-Disc boxset DVD (Excel Media / R6 / English 5.1 & Mandarin 2.0) Mandarin track is China dubbed http://www.gouduo.com/ware_13249.html - 2010 Blu-ray plain edition (Excel Media / Region A & C) Mandarin track is Taiwan dubbed http://www.gouduo.com/ware_13250.html - 2010 Blu-ray Diamond Boxset (Excel Media / Region A & C) Mandarin track should be Taiwan dubbed too http://mvd.360buy.com/20015446.html More pictures of the Diamond Boxset here: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() - Last edited by FeiLong; 09-26-2012 at 05:21 PM. |

I think there is no big difference, it's more like Canadian French or European, or Latin Spanish and European Spanish, but it's enough for Disney and they make two or more dubs in one language

btw Did you check Asian blu-ray edition of "Brave"? Is there two Mandarin dubs? And can you check for me a small part of movie, song "Touch the Sky" (I think it is begin of movie, 7th minute of movie), is there maybe background song dubbed in Asian languages, or they keep the original, English version. I'm so annoying, I know ![]() Thanks |

Because I like to have Cantonese, when available as well as Mandarin, I usually end up with the Hong Kong versions and I think they usually would have the Taiwanese Mandarin.
My ideal would be Cantonese + Mainland Mandarin, but you can't always get what you want. No problem on the BRAVE question. The only thing is that I just bought a 3D TV yesterday from Amazon Black Friday and am waiting for the delivery to watch BRAVE in 3D. It will probably be next week. I'll try to post, but ask me again if I don't. ![]() My favourite, BTW, is MULAN in Cantonese or Mandarin. So authentic! ![]() |
