Default Official BACKSTREET BOYS Discussion Thread (Please Read First Post!)

I started a thread for this before the site crash a few months ago, but never rebuilt it. Whatever anyone may think, it takes talent to be successful for almost 20 years. Here's the rules...

1) No personal attacks or insults are to be directed toward the band members, their families, or other Blu-ray Forum users.

If you don't like their music, fine, but please don't condemn or insult those who do. Let's try to keep things civil in here; thanks.

2) No sexually explicit images or comments of any kind are welcome in this thread...period.

Those who break either of these will be reported to the moderators without warning.

* * *

OK, now let's get on with the fun stuff! New album in early 2013, which also marks the group's 20th anniversary, and Kevin Richardson's officially returned to the fold! Backstreet Pride forever!

I'll bite. Jumped on the bandwagon of haters when they were megahuge in the late 90s/early 2ks and never really gave them a fair listen until 5-6 years ago. Like a lot of pop, there's a high ratio of filler to gems. But those gems (usually the singles for me) are damn catchy and pretty well crafted pop tunes. Haven't heard much beyond their earlier dance pop work, though. I've only heard a few of the singles from their later albums and don't really remember much about them. Interesting that Kevin's back - will try to give this a listen.

Well, I loved seeing all five of them on the Old Navy commercial.

Just bumping this up for general discussion, since no one's replied in almost 2 years.

The band's got a new documentary scheduled for a theatrical release on January 30th, which will probably be placed on home-video after a limited run.

This article is very interesting; I'm really looking forward to the documentary's home-video release this summer.

OK, so I watched the documentary online yesterday...and to my surprise, it was pretty good. There's a few isolated crass moments, including a scene of Nick ranting toward Brian in a producers' meeting...but overall, I enjoyed it.

Most of the film serves as a contrast, between the band's original formation in 1993 versus their current status over 20 years later in 2014. From the outset, you can tell its going to be interesting; the film opens with the BSB members hiking up a mountain trail, and A.J. McLean lagging behind due to knee surgery. There's no malice between the five, though tempers occasionally flare. Some of the best moments involve Kevin revisiting his childhood home, Brian reflecting on his voice being damaged by the swine flu a few years ago, and Nick talking about his rough childhood, even returning to his old school for a reunion with a teacher. For some reason, Howie doesn't get much personal exposure; his stories are largely about Lou Pearlman and his fellow bandmates.

Tracks from most of their albums appear in some form throughout the film, from hits like "Everybody" and "Larger Than Life" to softer fare like "Madeleine" and "Safest Place to Hide". I'd recommend it to most fans, with a warning about brief language or content issues.

Since my mother's sad passing, there's two songs by the band which have come to mind; I think they both work very well for those in the grieving process...

After patiently waiting a few hours and avoiding at least 200 women waiting outside Body English in Las Vegas for the afterparty a few years ago, I was able to meet Kevin. I shook his hand and said:

Quote:
Me: Mr. Richardson, I've waited 17 years to meet you and I just want to thank you and the guys for making music that gave me inspiration during the hard times of my life.

(He took his other hand and place it over mine during our handshake.)

Kevin: Thanks, man. I appreciate that.
Not going to lie. I've met a lot of celebrities and this is one of the few times I got emotional because of how much they helped me get through depression over the years. I hope to meet Brian some day.

I'd love to meet them someday, since I've been a fan for almost 20 years. I'm still hoping Brian releases another gospel album; "Welcome Home" is a great effort from that genre.

Backstreet Boys Promises New Album With More Tours For The 'Next Three Years'

Quote:
Following their successful tours aroung the world, the biggest 90s boyband, Backstreet Boys is confirmed to work on a new album.

Almost 20 years following their self-titled debut album, the American boyband is all set to work on a new record this year.

During the promotion of their docu-movie on ITV's daytime show "Loose Women," members, J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell announced on National Television that they are actively gearing up for a new album.

"Our music is always evolving," they said of their new album. "We're getting ready to go back into the studio later this year."

In line with their new album, fans are already speculating that Backstreet Boys will most likely going to release their record withing 2016-2017.

"We also just signed a deal with Live Nation to do 150 shows in the next three years," they revealed.

And as their new album progresses, Backstreet Boys took time to acknowledge the members' efforts and great friendship to their success.

"Communication was probably the biggest savior for us," they said in the interview. "We all came from individual backgrounds, but when you're in a team, it's not about 'I', it's about the 'we'. There's a lot of give and take, you have to become almost selfless when you're in a group."

Guilty. I have to admit I was a big fan of them in the beginning, early 90s. When they finally got big in the US too, I thought their best work was already behind them. Always found it a strang thing they were already big in other parts of the world first. As for all the '00+ Albums, I didn't like any of them. But I'll never forget the 'Get Down', 'You're the One for Me' and 'Quit playing Games wit My Heart' period where all of my teenager friends, including myself, had the Nick Carter haircut. Lol. Nostalgia.

The band released their newest single a couple of days ago, and their upcoming tenth studio album is planned for later this year!

My wife laughs at me all the time about but I'm genuinely a fan of their music (she was an NSync fan though so I think that's why).

The new single is decent but it took a few listens to grow on me. Looking forward to the rest of the album.
