Unless Criterion matches or improves upon the previous packaging and supplemental features, I can't see myself ever getting rid of it. I'll have to find a way to combine all the discs into the original DVD packaging.
At the very least, they'll port over all of the extras, and may even create a new featurette or two. I can't wait to ditch that massive DVD set and free up some shelf space.

Curious that it's only a stereo audio track, while the existing Blu-ray is 5.1. Was the original movie itself only ever mixed in stereo, and the existing Blu-ray is an up-mix?

Multichannel wasn't the norm until the 90's (they were limited to 70mm prints). It's a pity studios sell you the "original theatrical exhibition" when it comes to image but don't respect the original audio mixes.

Love that they went back to this artwork (although I don't like the blue Criterion logo, color or placement seems off).

I think I'll pass. The French Digibook I have is nearly the same in terms of content as the transfer and audio are both ace and the fact that the most interesting extra 'What is Brazil?' is included. And I loved the artwork and the digibook packaging, and the French release is the easy choice for the digibook lovers. Though if Criterion really aces the transfer on the French Disc, which is very unlikely, I might consider selling it and taking the Criterion instead.

This'll be quite the improvement over my non-anamorphic DVD. :)

This has turned exactly as I had hoped. I will have the 3 cuts, with no regrets for picking up the Universal disc (which is quite excellent).

Criterion will be region-locked so its not an option anyway for me. Im quite happy with my French digibook though - transfer looked as good as I could have hoped for and Im very happy with it. Will be interesting to see all the people who said the current shorter US blu cut was the better cut of the two all changing their minds suddenly though

And the Love Conquers All cut...who really wants to watch that anyway?! I never have and I dont want to either - sounds like a travesty from what Ive read. Would be nice to have the Gilliam commentary though.

Will this have all the same cuts that were on Criterion's DVD and Laser Disks?

I've seen them all except Love Conquers All, but there is significant difference with International and Director's Cut, roughly same in length, but there are inserts of alternative takes in the Director's Cut, so the content is not exactly one to one. I like all them, but for anyone viewing the film for the first time, I'd always recommend the US cut cause it is the most suspenseful cut. The other two are great once you've seen it.

So this new Criterion 2 disk will not include the US cut or the International Cut of the film correct? I currently have the French Digibook which is phenomenal!

So to have all the cuts in the best format you would need...

1. US Universal release (US cut)

2. The Criterion Collection 2 disk set (which will contain the Director's cut and the Love Conquers All cut)

3. and the French or German Universal release for the International Cut
(The UK release did not have loss-less audio)

That is just plain crazy! Very disappointed that the Criterion set is not all inclusive and the definitive set!

P.S. If anyone would like to part out their criterion blu-ray set in the future I would love to buy just the Love Conquers All version disk only

I think that with this disk along with my French Digibook I would be content with what I have -- I know that many people will never watch the Love Conquers All disk so it would lower their overall cost of purchasing Brazil....keep it in mind!!!
