I'm converting to blu-ray at the same time I'm keeping anything that either isn't on blu yet, or I just don't like the new edition of (like say, the cover packaging for Ninth Gate). But I sell off a lot of DVDs and while I never miss anything I get rid of, I do sometimes wonder why things sell for what they do...and I've been on ebay for like 15 years!
The most recent DVD I sold off was Disney's Lion King. I just picked up the blu-ray so getting rid of it was natural. I just thought I'd have gotten more than I did. But then I look around and I'm tempted to get rid of this or that based on potential profit...but then a movie would most likely be gone from my collection for years until it came back out, IF it came back out. So what say you, my fellow wheelers and dealers? What was the last DVD you sold off? Why'd you sell it? Is there something you sold off that you wish you had back? Why? |

interesting post!
I've had a huge collection of DVD's in the past(1200+ titles) and had to sell them all off a few years ago to fund travelling overseas. having had so much in the past, I find i'm actually way, way more selective this time around. I'm only buying movies that i truly adore and could watch again and again, and I have a few DVD's i adore that aren't out on Blu or that i don't like the art work of the newer version. think the last DVD I sold was a steelbook of Daywatch. The only one i regret selling was the Hire dvd, david fincher's produced promo film for BMW, its proving tricky to find again to replace. |

I didn't have that many, but I was up in your direction, selling them off here and there for no reason other than I didn't want them anymore. Then Blu-ray came and I started getting rid of more and more. But like you said, I got really picky now too. If I sell a lot of 40 DVDs I may want like 5 or so back on Blu-ray. With movies so readily available on Netflix or cable, etc...I just don't feel the need to own all that I used to. Always wanted to see Daywatch/Nightwatch...really gotta check those out! Hey, I have comics from that BMW campaign. lol Dark Horse Comics put out a mini-series about it, with some really good creators on the books. |

Last sold was Twilight Zone Season 3. Figured since they were unopened and I had no intention to open them since I want to buy the blus someday (when there is a good deal), I should sell them while they still go for $20+. That's how much I bought them for, so no net loss.
Also just sold Deadwood (complete) and Rome (seasons 1 & 2). Deadwood is still worth around $50+ but Rome is almost worthless now, $10-15 each. Still, I hope to buy those on Blu when there is a deal as well. I sell my film DVDs basically as soon as a Blu-ray release is announced, to get the best price possible before everyone else starts doing the same thing. Exceptions are when I think there is some possibility it may not actually get released (then I wait until it is more solid), or when my DVD is some kind of special edition with something I just can't bear to part with (examples, so far I have not been able to make myself ditch the boxed Batman Begins w/graphic novel, Monty Python Holy Grail set with complete screenplay included, or Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition). Generally I don't worry much about whether I'll lose special features in the upgrade because I'm not big on those. If the going price is less than $5, I have stopped selling them and just save those for Best Buy Upgrade & Save. Have not yet regretted selling one; I hope Roger Rabbit really gets released because I already sold it! |

I've probably traded in about 400+ dvds to a local bookstore over the last year. Most of these were common, big blockbuster movies or Big Lots purchases that go for pennies to a couple of dollars at most on the used market now. Not entirely remorseful since they were either movies I own on blu already, are extremely common to find anywhere, or crap titles.. and in exchange I've built a pretty cool book collection. I've also traded in 15 dvds so far towards the BB upgrade and save program. Rarer titles I'm trying to hold onto, especially ones that are long oop and less likely to reach blu soon or ever. All that said, it does suck to take such a depreciation hit when many of the titles I've traded in for a buck or so were purchased in the late 90s to early 00s for upwards of $20 each.

Most recend DVD sales were;
50 First Dates, the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, a couple annoying kids titles that even my kids didn't want to see ever again, Looney Tunes Platinum collections 1 and 2. No remorse, i've spent the money on better Blurays or replaced the DVD's with the Bluray version from my collection. |

I too paid $20+ for a lot back then, especially for my old Criterions that I've since sold off on ebay. You live and learn though, right? Tonight I just picked up the Kevin Smith three-pack of Clerks, Chasing Amy and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back for $4.99 at Best Buy. lol I paid 4 times that for Chasing Amy back when I bought it. The only thing I'm currently having a slight seller's remorse on, now that I'm selling them off, are the original "Limited Issue" Disney films since they've been coming out or scheduled to be on the way. I've had these things since the moment they came out and feel a little sad getting rid of them. Until I watch the Hi-Def ones anyways. |

I was shocked that I ebayed the movie ZANDALEE, a love triangle with Nick Cage and Judge Reinhold of all people...and it went for almost $50!
A friend was like "is it a hard movie to find?" And I said that while it may very well be, that doesn't make it any less of a piece of crap to watch. lol Odd what things sell for sometimes. |

Last sold was propbably Arachnaphobia and Wages of Fear (both upgraded)
Biggest regret. Last year before I got on this site I assumed everything would eventually come to blu so I sold my copy of Fright Night II for like 3 dollars. That one hurt. |

Late last year I sold off 99% of our DVD collection with hopes that some of it would convert to Blu Ray. I regret getting rid of a lot of TV shows like Home Improvement and then our whole Snoopy/Peanuts collection. I really miss those. A few are on blu ray but still

I dont sell my dvds, I give them to my son for his collection as I upgrade to Blu ray. And in saying that I have over 1000 dvds and am not prepared to upgrade all to Blu ray as they cost me a small fotune. I only upgrade to Blu ray my most precious titles, the films I love the most.
