Question Copyright protection

How good is the copyright protection on the Blu-ray movies? I know it's suppose to be better than standard DVDs, but how much better?

BD+ has not been broken and some software companies have been pretty pissed about that fact. I'm sure that in isolated instances some movies have been cracked but the security has not been compromised yet.

Edit: If someone edits my post, please do not make me sound like I'm fresh off the boat.

And when/if thye do crack it, they can completely change the system if they want to and have the locks back on within a few weeks on all future titles

every disc has a different code, if you break the code, congratulations, you can replicate 1 disc and 1 movie.

This is the reason why BD is now supported by all studios.

It's a pretty good reason. Lol! How much will it really cut down on copying?

You know I am all for copy protection but I think a good handful of consumers will want to stick with their SD-DVDs instead of upgrading to blu-ray because they will want more control of their movies (ie: burn to hard drive, ipod, psp,2nd copy of disc forself not to sell).

I am also sure their is a good number of people out their that depend on the bootleg market and will never want to upgrade to blu-ray.

It won't cut it off completely, but it'll definetly reduce the number of copies, it just makes it harder for people to copy, its just too much of a hassle to try and break all the time since they can just revise it later on.

Definitely more robust than DVD but as people have mentioned a particular Bluray can be cracked but they can change the algo./prg next time. Take a look DUD, all of their stuff has been compromised and posted. Not all BD disc implemented BD+ but until blank media is at a reasonable cost most people are not gonna copy Bluray for now. I would expect there will be some copying later, only a fool would not believe so...

That's why the movement for digital copies on disc. As soon as BD-ROMs are more prevalent and/or the PS3 gets a way to move them onto an iPod or PSP, you'll see them right on the disc. We're not even talking about something that takes up a GB here, and iPod/laptop/PSP is where most of them end up anyway

Why would people EVER buy bootleg BDs when the hardcoat makes used BDs play phenomenally? It's true that with both used and bootleg the studios don't see the money and it doesn't count in the Neilsen's, but with used Blu-rays at least it's honest, better quality and includes original artwork and inserts. You never know what you're gonna get with bootleg copies.

In that case, wouldn't the person getting scammed report the seller to the MPAA?
