...the "best of" Bluray collection looks disappointing.

Not sure what to think about Oz in 3D.

Loved Wizard of Oz as a kid and still do. 10/10.

And I will get this, and watch it, and love the visuals if converted right. But for some reason, I'm not jumping for joy. I never am at this news. I like my 2D movies 2D, the same as I like my B&W movies B&W and my silent movies silent.

But, if I was in control of this conversion, I think it would work to keep the Kansas scenes in 2D, or subtle 3D, and Oz in really strong, Hugo-style 3D. Kinda the Tron effect. Any thoughts/opinions on this idea?

I actually love the idea, though I would not have it totally flat, just back it way off, then really pull it out when needed (in OZ).

You know what I would like almost as much , maybe they could do it in conjunction assuming they own it, but how about a conversion of "The Wiz"..Im actually not sure which one Im remembering now...

I love this idea. If they do this (and do the whole conversion well), I'll be happy to see it.

Its a good idea if the conversion is done right. It better be because some 3D conversions have hurt 3D more then it has helped.

So true, hopfully if Titanic shows and proves one thing, that if the time & care are put into the effort the conversion it will be accepted.

By the larger movie going public and even by the critics!

I knew this was gonna happen. It was discussed in another forum. I have no objections at all.

All I can say is this:

I'll get you my pretty... and your little box set too!

I seen Wizard of Oz 4D some months ago in a theater that was inside of a Ripley's Believe it or Not museum and if that's any indication of how it will look then we will not be disappointed. It wasn't the full movie, just the scenes that really benefited from the 3D with added in-theater effects. Either way, it was perfect.

Good points.

The Wizard of Oz is a great classic film with one of the most vibrant color palettes in movies. Reds, yellows, greens, blues, orange, silver, etc...

If this is made with 3D layers as strong as Titanic 3D or the best 3D conversions around and not rushed together like some of the weakest 3D conversions today, then yes, I will definitely buy this even though I have it on blu ray. But the price needs to be in the 24.99 range or less.

I hope the 3D turns out great. Cool news, thanks.

From the article of the first link:

The problem with converting old movies using new technology is there is no depth of field. Even with THE PHANTOM MENACE, the 3D in places just looked like cardboard cutouts standing in front of a matte painting. So, unless Warners has found a magical way to make the 3D look amazing, this feels like a cash grab.
Lets see, "old movies" Titanic was made in 1997 and The Phantom Menace in 1999.

Good point Paul.

Critics are quick to dismiss 3D as a cash grab whenever they can. Even though the ones doing the conversion (hopefully doing a great job) may look at it as a way to bring the film into another dimension of visual entertainment.

If the 3D is flat and dull, then I can understand why they'd call it a cash grab, since the effort wasn't there to begin with.

Oh yeah, I think I remember hearing about that!

I'm also highly fascinated by this news. On the one hand, I think I always knew that WB was eventually going to convert this. On the other, I don't really think I care about or love The Wizard of Oz like other people do(I know I know, just tie me to a pike and let the crows pick at me lol). Then again, it's been years since I've actually sat down to watch the movie in full. Maybe I would appreciate it more now *shrug*

I don't support this... But I already have it on Blu-ray and it looks tremendous so it's not like the film is being "ruined"
I just hope the conversion is good so that at least the 3D fans can enjoy this. It'll be neat if the bw scenes are kept in 2D.

I actual found that Wizard of OZ was one of the pictures that looked excellent when using my Samsung's 2d to 3d conversion feature.
