Default Hats off to the Koreans: The Host

Girls, I just seen the Host on blu ray and the PQ and SQ were excellent. I was impressed by this and then thought to myself how can this little foreign company do such a good job and some of big hollywood studios couldn't get their act together with Superman returns, the first fifth element..etc? What are your opinions?

Girls? I'm pretty sure there are alot more males on these forums lol.

Never the less, its been discussed ten times over why some movies cant possibly look as good as some others. Some are film and some are HD cameras for one.

I highly recommend some of the extra features on this disc. They mention actually working a bit with ILM and otheer such companies and individuals who have worked on some of Hollywood's best.

Not really sure, often smaller companies get better results because they have more dedicated employees and can't afford to slack off.

i agree completly, the scene with the monster running amok on the street was exelent. The english voice over was poorly done but nonetheless, this is a great monster movie

u have to admit the acting was subpar and really over done.... example: the scene were the family is looking at the picture of the little girl (thier sister) and start crying and falling over the place slapping each other.....come'on, I know u lost someone close to u, this I thought was jsut way to chessy and overly played

Smile More than a Monster Movie

I bought The Host when it first came out in BR. Some people thought the father in the movie acted kinda corny, but I didn't. I think he played his part very well. The father is just an ordinary shop keeper, earning a buck. His daughter gets carried away by this monster and he spends the rest of the movie chasing that creature down. This guy ain't no Rambo. Just a father who loves his daughter and will do anything and fight anyone or anything to get her back.

I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it to anyone. Especially fathers of little girls.

If you watch more Korean/Asian movies, you'll see that they do this all the time. I never noticed it myself until now.

Back to the movie, yes its a quality BR. I just got it and sample the Monster's first attackm and it had great video and audio

I thought it was a pretty good monster movie. I didn't know what to expect so it was a pleasant surprise.

The only thing I didn't like is when they were in a gym (I think it was) and one of the women was constantly wailing. It got on my nerves so much I had to fast forward past that. Actually, it might be the scene dgator783 described but I'd have to watch it again to be sure.

The overdone ridiculous behavior in this scene was deliberate. You'll notice that this movie occasionally has scenes of blatant comedic tone, this is one of those scenes. Its not supposed to be bust a gut funny. Just brings a smirk to your face.

This scene is not an example of how Asians sometimes seem to over animate/react in various situations compared to westerners.
