Default Rockstar going ps3 exclusive after GTAIV?

There have been recent rumblings that Rockstar will be focusing exclusively on ps3 development after the release of GTAIV:

Quote:
According to reports, all future games from Rockstar beyond Grand Theft Auto IV will be exclusive to the PS3. GTA IV is slated to release in April on the Xbox 360 and PS3, but that may be all the love Xbox 360 owners get from Rockstar.

They stated in a report in Play Magazine “The game is both PS3 and 360, but Rockstar has suggested that all further game development is going to be PS3 exclusive.”
When reading this rumor, it reminded me of an announcement made on the PlayStation Blog back in July:

Quote:
New Rockstar Games Franchise Exclusive to the PS3

+ Posted by Michael Shorrock // Director of 3rd Party Relations, SCEA

This is Michael Shorrock. I’m the Director of 3rd Party Relations at SCEA. As you may have seen this morning/last night on GameHead with Geoff Keighley, we are announcing that a new franchise from Rockstar Games will be exclusive to PS3. As part of our long standing relationship with Rockstar, and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto, we’ve agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios.

Everyone knows to have success in this business you need to look ahead, identifying the talent and titles that are going to give consumers new kinds of gaming experiences that help set the bar for the rest of the industry. Rockstar has a heritage for doing just that. We have had incredible success with the GTA franchise and are happy to continue to offer those titles on our platforms, and even more excited about what’s to come from the current and future relationship between our companies. Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that.. This is really a win-win situation for both companies. As Jack mentioned in the interview with Geoff, this franchise is not LA Noire, but something all new. We agreed with Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive Software that we wouldn’t disclose anything more about the deal or title at this time, so stay tuned, we’ll share more info as soon as we can.
...so it looks to be more than just a rumor. Rockstar is apparently making a new franchise (franchise, not game) exclusively for the ps3 in addition to the already announced LA Noire. And from recent reports, it seems as if they are working on these new game(s) right now.

None of this is news, Sony paid for an exclusive franchise about 6 months ago, just like MS paidfor the exclusive GTA4 episodic content

No, it just means if you pay $50 dollars a year for XBox Live service you will have the "privilege" of paying ~$10 for an extra add-on mission. The actual games will be identical, as per confirmation on multiple occasions by Rockstar.

Rockstar is being pursued by EA via buyout. If that happens, no chance of them going PS3 exclusive.

Ughh...and no doubt if that happens the Rockstar name will be meaningless in 2-3 years.

I hate EA

Take-Two rejected the buyout bid. Not happening anytime in the near future.

No way will EA be able to pony up the cash to buy Take Two. IIRC their latest offer undervalued the company by a significant margin.

If the buyout occurs, it's going to be on Take-Two's terms.

No, anyone can download paid content immediately (Xbox Live Silver). $50 a year buys you online play, early access to free content and a bunch of other features

I think this is just another big step in the strides that the ps3 continues to make as it grows in sales and popularity. There has been a lot of good news that continues to roll here.

And for the XBox version of the game to be equivalent to the PS3's out of the box, you need the $50/year service for online multiplayer. Then on top of that you get to pay even more for add-on missions. Dice it how you want, I suppose, but it still involves spending more money.

Take 2 rejected the buyout bid because they know that after GTA4 they can get 25-30% more money for the company based on a great quarter or 2

Ummmm....Rockstar won't be a part of Take 2, and technically isn't even now. Rockstar is breaking off ties with Take 2 very soon.

EA wants control of the sports market again. That's what they're aiming for.

That's kind of an understatement. GTA is definitely a big series, but Take Two helms over games like Bioshock, Sid Meier's Civilization, The Elder Scrolls IV (PC/360), the entire 2K Sports line, and all of Rockstar's lineup on top of that.

Really? Haven't heard that one confirmed yet. Interesting. I thought it was just a rumor they might pull off a Bungie and split. EA would certaintly want them to be a part of the acquisition, you'd think.

If EA gets a hold of the GTA franchise i'd expect they will try to saturate the market with it.. DS, WII, PSP, PS2, PS3, 360
