They obviously never saw Transformers in IMAX. It had the most amazing sound in a movie ever.

I didn't think the Sound or Visuals on Transformers was anything extraordinary, double that for the acting, directing, and writing. It was pretty much all around crap.

Same for Bourne, though the editing on that movie was atrocious and I am flabberghasted it even got a nod let alone a win.

I don't think Transformers got the shaft. The on who got shafted was Cate Blanchett.

I only feel Transformer was hosed on SPFX... I sort of knew Bourne was getting the audio awards since they won at the Motion Picture Sound Editors 55th Anniversary Golden Reel Awards.

Same people vote for the awards.

Speaking on behalf of those unimpressed with "Golden Compass" (and who thought, if the award was going to be about "natural" looking CGI, Transformers' highway scenes were better than Pirates' maelstrom battle), he isn't.

I know this is the "unpopular" thing to say, but I was kinda glad to hear it got shafted. I personally thought Transformers was the most overrated movie in the last several years. The story was dopey (with a lot of dead end macguffins) the FX were blurry and you couldn't tell what was going on half the time when fighting, I could go on and on. I liked the original TFs and the animated movie, and wanted to like this, but it was just a mess as far as movies go. I haven't seen Golden Compass, but Bourne was a much better film. I am not trying to start a flame war here, this is just my personal opinion (which obviously others do not agree with).

do you even know what your talking about? there is no way in hell Bourne had better cinematography than any of the movies nominated. Hell most of the time with bourne you couldn't even tell what you were looking at!

The Oscars has always seemed to "pick" their favorite and then ride them all the way. Very few suprises last night, except best actress, that one threw me!

I really hope you're kidding... The Bourne Ultimatum over There Will Be Blood? in Cinematography? have you seen There Will Be Blood? Probably some of the best Cinematography I've seen in years. I was lucky enough to talk with Robert Elswit at an ASC Open house about the film last month. But really man each composition is so incredible and the light is magnificent. I just hope Paramount decides to make this their comeback Blu. Things look promising seeing as they just took off the hd dvd preorder from amazon.

Nope. No Sci-Fi on that list.
I think I meant to say "Oscar". Do sci-fi flicks get Oscars?

Honestly, while I enjoyed Transformers on the screen there were some clear signs of cost cutting in the special effects. The worst scene was the highway chase scene if you keep an eye on the tail lights of the trucks as they transform.

Poor guy. Oh well.
with the visuals you're pushing it a little, there were better looking films in 2007,but sound editing and mixing, you're right transformers was robbed of those two oscars.

Transformers losing to The Golden Compass has got to be one of the biggest travesties in the history of the VFX category. I reckon most AMPAS members, during the winners voting phase, simply didn't bother to watch the "big dumb toy movie."
