Stereo! The DVD has 5.1 on it! Plus, this film stank. I'll take Demon Knight and even Bordello of Blood over this anyday!

Good question... I never remember hearing about this one. I really liked Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood though. Craig Scheffer is in "Ritual" I like him as a B-list actor.

Do you know that there are actually 4 Tales From the Crypt Total? I know everyone knows Demon Knight and Bordello Of Blood, But there was another one made called Fat Tuesday that was made but never came out.

Plot Summary for Ritual (2002), keep in mind this film was in pre-production since 1999.

Dr. Alice Dodgson gets her medical license revoked after the death of one patient. She's facing the possibility of not get any job when she accepts to be the nurse for one young man who suffers of cephallitis called Wesley Claybourne. Aside from the sickness he's suffering Wesley believes he has been "touched" by some voodoo cult. While she stays in Jamaica, Dr. Dodgson will feel uncomfortable as she discovers that voodoo is not only a "state of mind" and could be a real threat to her life and Wesley's. She'll have to discover why she and her patient are targets of the voodoo curse.

Ritual was dumped by Universal Pictures and Picked up by Dimension Films, and was in the Weinstein vault for a couple of years.

I believe Ritual IS a reworked version of the Fat Tuesday concept.

This one isn't as good as the first two, but it's an okay B movie. Still waiting for my copy to arrive.

If I have my dates correct, it was made in the late 90's and finally released in 2002 or 2003. I grabbed a download back then and couldn't have been more disappointed. Take out the opening segment and you would never know it was a TFTC film, in fact the whole film feels like a low-budget rip-off of People Under the Stairs or some other island voodoo zombie flick. It remains the lone piece missing from my Tales collection and will continue to. I promised myself never to watch it again, it was that bad. Proceed with caution, I love the series, have both other films and all 7 seasons, and refuse to buy this for a freaking nickel!

Isn't this a remake of I Walked With A Zombie? I beleiev that the Cryptkeeper stuff was added after the movie was made to make it a TFTC film

Ritual isn't godawful. Pretty decent story and acting. Doesn't really have the style of humor that an actual movie based on the TFTC TV series should, because as mentioned, I don't think it was intended as a TFTC movie until after the fact. Regardless of what the original intention was, it doesn't feel like part of the series, and the half-assed Cryptkeeper opening (which wasn't even part of the Netflix HD streaming which was 4:3 by the way, so I wonder how Echo Bridge will do it), which must have been made exclusively for the DVD release since it uses the same cheapy puppetry as the show's DVD menus, makes me think of it even less as part of the series.

Demon Knight is the only one I'd really care to own for a decent price. By far the best of the three, my only complaints being that the "Hollywood Director Cryptkeeper" segments are rather unamusing, and it really feels too much like an extended episode of the show, which I think works best in a half-hour format. The middle stretch of DK reeeaaally drags along to fill that 90-minute standard. But those first 20 minutes or so are golden. Particularly this performance by Billy Zane:

Now, give me the 1970s Tales from the Crypt and Vault of Horror movies on Blu-ray with the latter uncut, and I'll be the happiest of campers. :)

At least unlike the horrible copy on Netflix, they re-added the crypt keeper beginning scene and also made it widescreen.
