I watched The Prestige and The Last Samurai and didn't have a problem. Then I watched The Departed and it froze. Same with The Descent. I updated my PS3 yesterday to version 1.54 and put The Departed back in and went to where it froze up. It worked just fine. Then tonight I watched Memento and it froze up three times. So I disabled the online function and went back to an area that I had problems with, worked fine.
I hope this fixes it but I am looking for a real fix, it seems the latest PS3 upgrade didn't work. The freezing really detracts from the Blu-Ray experience. ![]() |

I have the Sony Blu-Ray player, and so far I had freeze in Superman Returns and Memento-I did the update(is there only one?) and the problem happens intermittenly. Sony should fix this problem-How can they be alerted of this problem? I called Sony and they said it was the discs?????

So after the PS3 upgrade and disabling the online function I watched American Psycho tonight. No problem what so ever. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I don't think it's the discs themselves. If it is then Sony has major problems since it seems that a lot of the titles out there have the same problem. Not a good answer from them. |

I returned the player and exchanged it for another player, so far no problems with the three movies I played. |

only freezing I've seen on PS3 using BD was The Departed about halfway into the movie... being a netflix disk I knew to inspect the disk.. sure enough, there were grimey finger prints on the bottom (no scratches) .. cleaned with my PSP cloth, went back to the same chapter, no problems after that... same with my DVDs
I'd have to say that the only problems I've had with BD and DVD on the PS3 with regards to freezing, are BARELY dirty disks and very dirty disks ... cleaning the disks resolved this.... thx! |

Since the upgrade (20gb PS3) to 1.54 I had freeze issues with Babel.
Since then I watched Sleepy Hollow and Corpse Bride without freezes. Today I watched The Prestige, and it again froze at about 8 instances... ![]() Could it be newly authored discs that causes the problem? |

Hi guys,
So I've had the same issue, and Sony hasn't really "fixed" the issue, but I've got myself a 60 gig PS3, and have it connected to the internet via Wi-Fi. It freezes up periodically during Blu-Ray playback, and it's kind of ridiculous. But here's what I found out... The problem doesn't seem to affect my other friends who are using an ethernet connection on their PS3. It's only the Wi-Fi folks. I tried disabling the internet connection (go to your Network settings, if you're using Wi-Fi, and hit "disable"), and guess what? I haven't run into a freeze since then. It seems to be an issue with PS3's using the Wi-Fi, at least from what I've seen. Is everyone here using Wi-Fi, or are there ethernet people as well (in which case, I'm wrong)? If this works for you, post it up and spread the word 'cuz, while it's a hassle, at least it's an easy workaround until Sony finally fixes the problem. |

I've only experienced freeze once, maybe twice with the 6 movies I've purchased in the past week or so, when I puchased the PS3...
Ridge Racer 7 froze alot until I cleaned it and it's been perfect ever since...(used game) I think The Prestige froze for a few secondsm so I hit the back button and it played fine from there on out.. I use the ethernet jack as opposed to the wi-fi... any other questions?, feel free to ask.. |

I guess I am the lucky one here as none of my BDs have frozen yet, but I have had other issues since updating my PS3 to 1.54. I have yet to watch a BD since the update, so I guess I need to keep my fingers crossed.

Just a quick update....
Since upgrading my PS3 to 1.54 and disabling the online feature I have had no problems with freezing on Blu-Ray movies. I've watched 3 more since I've done it and it's been a beautiful experience. ![]() |

Bond probably changed you PS3's firmware secretly and now it's recording all your actions and sending the heavy data back to a M, err... and that causes the freezes. Yeah that's the ticket.
I keeeeed! I keeed! Welcome JuanPas. I hope the freezing problem gets fixed. |

I have read several posts saying that the problem has to do with the wi-fi but i do not believe that is the problem.....i bought a PS3 a few weeks after Christmas and every Blu-Ray i played paused and i was forced to cash in my product replacement plan at the store i bought it at and recieved a new one a few weeks ago.....opened that PS3 up and never hooked it up to the internet, enabled the wi-fi, or made any connection to the internet and the PS3 continued to pause during Blu-Ray playback; which leads me to believe that the wi-fi is not the major cause i feel it may be the hardware especially considering that not everyone has the problem which probably means its a hit or miss whether you get a bad PS3 or not..... i got fed up with Sony considering it cost me $75 extra dollars in product replacement plans.... i took the PS3 back and got my money back

My understanding from HD-DVD owners that there is a tremendous problem with freeze and glitches. I suppose both formats will have to work out the kinks, but I'm very happy I went with BLU-Ray. |

Yeah, HDDVD players freeze up all the time. It really sucks because at work I have to keep it playing all day, so resetting the players at least once a day gets pretty old.
