Default A Bug's Life (Pixar) vs. Antz (Dreamworks)

1998. Dreamworks Animation brings us Antz, Pixar follows with A Bug's Life. I remember both being accused for stealing the idea from the other. It was even in the papers. "Antz" did well with the critics, while "A Bug's Life" was overshadowed by the "Who-was-first-buzz" and now is often called the least good Pixar movie out there.

My choice:

Saw both again some time ago and I think "A Bug's Life" is a timeless movie that is so much stronger on every possible level, for the whole family. While "Antz" seems to be dated, imo. It's so flat on the characters and once you look beyond the jokes, there's not much left. Also, the animation is not on the same level as Bug's Life. Everything about Antz is so damn static, in the Pixar movie you can find endless details in every shot. Every character has it's own way of moving, not in Antz. Antz has ... big names. Also, I have the feeling is made by a visionary director, while Antz could have been made by anyone, really.

What's yours?

Not a fan of Antz. A Bug's Life however is one of my favourite Pixar films.

Ill let my kids be the judge. They've asked for multiple viewings of Bug's Life in the car and at home. Never asked to re-watch Antz at all.

I'm gonna give some love to Antz. While ABL is still good, it's one of Pixar's weakest imo, and I really love the characters and voice work in Antz and the more mature and adult-oriented storyline. It also has some great visuals with the "stuck under a shoe"-scene stealing the show. Would love to have it on blu-ray

Is this poll for real?

A Bug's Life is a great movie; Antz is a knock-off at best.

I loved both films equally, but for different reasons. And Antz really needs to be on Blu-Ray, but Dreamworks is apparently not interested in releasing any of their pre-Shrek animated films in HD.

Had A Bug's Life not come out after Toy Story, this isn't even a debate. While flawed, A Bug's Life is great while Antz is just good

A Bug's Life definitely, and not only because it is visually better.

I remember Antz bothering me because they had and extra pair of appendages which makes sense since they're ants but A Bug's Life was better all around with character designs, story, quality.

I much prefer A Bug's Life, but I thought Antz did the ant design better with six legs, and not four legs for a few insect characters in A Bug's Life. Oddly, the stick dude had six legs, spider had eight...but the other insects were reduced to four. It bugged me.
