I can't wait for this release ether. Sounds like you had the old Goodtimes DVD and that was pretty crappy. |

I think The Thing is fine, especially if you have the UK disc with the making-of documentary. Army of Darkness...oh I'd love to have the director's cut restored in HD!

I love The Funhouse. I have fond memories of watching this and Jason Lives on VHS one time I visited my dad. We watched Jason Lives first and then he went to bed and I watched The Funhouse by myself. I was probably 10 or 11. It's one of those horror film memories that I remember most. Something about sitting there with the lights out in my dad's small place that he was at while living away from home due to work made this one special. I also loved Friday the 13th and for this to beat Part 6 was a big deal when I was that young.
Needless to say, I'm looking forward to seeing this the best it has ever looked. |

I didn't really care for the reviewer's rather smug dismissal of the horror genre as largely superficial. It was just a bit much, in my opinion. I also would've appreciated at least some kind of reference to the Arrow release for some kind of comparison for the readership here but he didn't even acknowledge its existence.

Slasher films, ok, most of them are superficial but he wasn't singling out that subgenre, he was lumping the Horror genre, as a whole and it just seemed like he was going out of his way to make it look like the lesser of all film genres and it just came off as needlessly condescending, in my opinion. And this coming from someone who didn't care much for Funhouse!

Well, it's a Liebman review. I guess just be thankful he did like the PQ. The way he marginalized the PQ of HIII and perhaps even some other catalog titles that were deserving of better marks may have started to earn him a reputation for allowing biases to negatively influence his reviews. He also seems to overlook or leave out important points, as you said he did with this one by not comparing it to the Arrow release. I don't know how blu-ray.com decides who reviews these titles. I just figured the reviewer is assigned a title to review. Because How else would someone with a negative bias of this horror genre willingly want to review titles from the very genre he dismisses as "superficial"? Seems a little strange. However, if they aren't assigned to them, then why couldn't a reviewer with experience of the Arrow release have first call on this review? Oh well, doesn't matter now. As it is, you'll just have to wait and see what others have to say about that comparison between the Scream Factory and Arrow Version of The Funhouse. The Shout disc DOES have completely different extras compared to Arrow's release, so if you want ALL the extras, you'll have to grab both. |
