Anyone know exactly what this is? Is it a Best Buy exclusive, another re-release or just a mistake someone made? |

For starters, these have been available since 9/11 per Best Buy and are available to ship immediately. If there was something new people would have known about it for a month at least.
Secondly, they're releasing Returns, the first movie (most likely the extended edition) and the Donner cut of the second. This is what Warner Bros. does when they just re-release their standard releases as part of some promo. Third, there are DVDs included in the re-release as well and you know Warner isn't remastering these on DVD. So yeah, they're probably already in Best Buy stores with some sort of movie ticket or promo of some kind. |

There's a pre-order for a triple feature of 1, 2, and Returns next month. They're trying to dump all of these discs now, so they can release the new discs separately (from the box set) next year to tie in with Man of Steel. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a new Superman Returns disc with the extended footage put back in.

Keep in mind that the original 2006 release only had AC-3 audio, and it was reprinted somewhere around 2008 to include PCM and TrueHD audio. The HD DVD release included TrueHD, so it's more or less a catch-up.
Those of you who still have the original release might consider this an upgrade. While I'd imagine most of the AC-3 only copies are off of shelves, still worth checking the back to make sure. |
