![]() ![]() Oh snaps, Capcom just announced Darkstalkers Resurrection which is an HD collection of Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/...alkers-is-back Resurrection will cost $14.99 on PSN and 1200 MSP for XBL. Darkstalkers Resurrection will feature HD graphical filtering and a new Challenge/Tutorial mode. Furthermore, the well-loved GGPO netcode returns and promises seamless online play. Capcom explained that Darkstalkers Resurrection also has various spectator modes, YouTube replay uploading, and enhanced matchmaking. Most importantly, Ono-san noted that Darkstalkers Resurrection was the very first step in Capcom's journey to revive the Darkstalkers franchise. We can expect to see more games from this series in the future, including an entirely new game in the same vein as Street Fighter IV. Darkstalkers Resurrection will launch in early 2013. |

I like Darkstalkers and all, but seriously Capcom (and everyone else)... there's enough fighting games. Just because SF4 and MK9 spawned a bit of a revival doesn't give these beancounters a free ticket to oversaturate the market.

$15 for 2 classic games is a good deal IMO.
Over saturate is a redundant statement... however I would disagree. Capcom has large number of different series of fighters, all of which have their devoted fans. Darkstalkers is definitely one of those more popular series, and a sequel is long over due. Will buy (both). |

I'm not calling Capcom out specifically, just all of these people who think that two moderately successful titles suddenly means a resurgence in the Fighting Game Community and think they can cash in by releasing another fighting game into the already full market. I don't question the loyalty of the Darkstalkers fanbase, and I certainly don't question the enthusiasm of the FGC, but each and every fighting game takes time to learn and master, and there are frankly too many franchises that are active now. That splits the user base and brings down the size and quality of all of the communities. You could try for the argument that more games will cause more people to play them, and perhaps to a small extent that might be true, but the online activity trackers don't lie. Last I checked Call of Duty, League of Legends, Minecraft, and a handful of MMOs are dominating playfield. None of the fighting games that have released recently do more than put up a blip in terms of online presence, and I can't tell you the last time I saw someone on my extensive friends list online and playing a fighting game more than 2 weeks past its release date.
