Default New speaker setup....help

I've been trying to find the best price possible on some klipsch speakers. I think I found a pretty good deal on some but they are cherry, not black. This is dumb because it's like $700 for a pair of RF-82's but none-the-less. how bad do you think it would look to paint the cherry cabs black?

yes, I know this is dumb but i thought I'd ask for input.

Dumbest idea I've ever had (and that's saying something). I thought to myself, "$200 now, or ***** about not having spent it everyday"

Bought the RF-82's and a RC-62 tonight! Suddenly I'm interested in the break-in period thread... I'm going to open up the boxes and let them aclimate to the house (humidity and temp) tonight. I'll probably hook them up sometime tomorrow....

I wish I knew what would make me ask a question about something I would tell someone else NEVER to do....

not a dumb question at all, and actually ive seen it done by many people that can make it look damn good. i dont suggest using krylon, but if youve got a buddy thats into auto painting you should hit him up. try messing around on an old set of speakers and see what you come up with.

Just so we're all clear, you want to take a pair of cherry Klipsch 82's and take a can of spray paint to them?

When did you first suspect you had a drinking problem?

When I drank a bottle of scotch one afternoon... that was my first, and ONLY clue. Everything short of that is normal right?

As long as it was a decent single malt, I'd say you were okay.

There are places that will put new wood veneers on speakers.... but it'll cost more than you paid for the speakers! I don't know of anyone who's ever painted etc.....

My fronts, Center, and rears are Rosenut wood veneers, and my surrounds are black (it was either that or white) I don't think it looks bad at all.... not like the fronts don't match the center at least! That's the only thing that would drive me nuts.

Hey Beta,
What did you end up going with for break-in on your new speakers? The klipsch's clearly aren't the same as what you bought, but you seem to have your head screwed on straight with this audio thing. I'll be plugging them up tonight. thanks

Well..... While I'm not at home, I have a 400 disc SACD player (they're not all SACDs in it though unfortunately) that I just put on "random" I turned off my sub (no reason to have it run) and I just set my receiver to run 2-channel. (I have enough hours on my other speakers, and I'm not concerned with breaking in the surrounds really) and I just play music at "normal" listening volume.... I don't push them hard, but just at normal levels. Unfortunately, we have a nanny who brings her 3 year old daughter during the day (which explains why one of the tweeters on one of my 705's is getting replaced ) so I can't do this while I'm at work..... other than that, I just toss on some music from the time I get home until I go to bed. Besides... I'm still in the "Kid on Christmas" stage, so I'm enjoying them a LOT!

My tweeter has been at the shop for over a week.... I gotta remember to pick that up today!

*also* I don't really know much about audio.... I do know that I really enjoyed the system I got in college, and had it for 10-12 years, so when I decided to upgrade, I decided I would really put all I could into it (the wife certainly protests every move)

If I get 10 years out of these speakers, that'll be great. My old system is currently in the basement for when people want to shoot some pool or play foosball...... it's still a good ol' fashion Wall-shaking system, and it's served me well for a LONG time!
