Les Miserables 10th Anniversary Dream Cast Concert

Any news on whether this will be released on Blu ray with the upcoming movie release? In my view, it's far better than the 25th anniversary (though I loved the person who played Eponine and I liked how they brought the the original casts out at the end of the show which was touching). It's being rereleased on DVD with remastered sound.

I haven't heard anything. Then again, this is the first I've heard of another re-release of this concert. I'd be fairly surprised if they took the time to remaster it, coincide the release to a close proximity of the film's release date, and not include a blu-ray version. But studios have surprised me before.

I, too, prefer this cast to the 25th anniversary cast, and would definitely double dip and add it to my collection. Though, the 31 dollars for a DVD version is a bit disconcerting, unless of course, that IS the bluray version.

since the trailer of the movie have revealed that the some of the ancilary sung bits are now spoken, I hope this concert version of the 'theatrical' version will become available on bluray.

The 25th anniversary concert is actually a more complete show. I didn't think this would get blu treatment, but it may now that they're remastering it.

Also that new trailer for the film version looks amazing

Yes, that one. I am fine with them adding some spoken lines in lieu of singing straight through. Although I seriously hope that they are not going to do what that abomination of Phantom of the Opera did, and have them speak in hushed rhyme from time to time. That was irritating.

the 10th anniversary concert was shot in standard definition, so it's unlikely it will be on blu-ray

I just picked up the new 10th Anniversary DVD. Great sound quality, but PQ shows its age. You can tell it was recorded on tape, now more than 15 years old. Audio is great and I'm happy to have it in widescreen on a single side of the disc. I got it for $23, which I was happy with.

I wrote to the company to ask if they were going to blu-ray it, they wrote back and said they have no plans at this time.

I just watched this and I don't really think a Blu Ray would do it justice. If you want Les Miz in Blu Ray, just get the 25th at the O2. To me, this is about nostalgia here and it looks like you're watching it on an almost fuzzy vhs. Yeah it could look and sound better....but that's now how it was filmed. I like capturing performances for what they are.

Of course this is only my opinion, but Nick Jonas ruins any enjoyment the 25th may have had otherwise. He is way out of his league, and it really shows. The 10th is the definite version to own, but unfortunately it will most likely never make it to BD.

It's not impossible. If you check the recently released first 4 seasons of the new Doctor Who on Blu-ray, which were originally shot in SD video and are now upscaled to 1080p, you can notice a discrete improvement in the picture quality. It's not leaps and bounds but the general picture is more pleasing to the eye. I sincerely hope that with the development of new upscaling algorithms, this, and many other programs that were shot in SD video, will eventually be released on Blu-ray.

I could be completely wrong on this, but I remember reading a while ago that the 10th was shot in an early HD format. Maybe 1080i on some kind of tape? Or a Japanese system?

I suppose it's possible, but I think it's unlikely, otherwise they would have released the BD in 2012 along with the remastered DVD. What I find curious is
the name of the production company listed at the end of the show: HD THAMES.
