Well it is part of Best Buy's buy one get one free program this week.

I ended up ordering it, so I am anxious to see what the picture quality is like. I am a big Kate Winslet fan and honestly like this movie. I already have the DVD but figured it would be worthwhile to upgrade to Blu-ray. We'll see...

The version streaming on Amazon Prime at the moment is in 4K UHD. The color still has that muddy tone I think. I will keep watching to see if that still seems to be the overall look throughout. The outdoor scenes will be the best for seeing.

FYI

Does anyone think this will see a physical 4k release?
It's a guilty pleasure of mine, but I haven't bought the BD because of the mostly negative reviews, although it seems to be split.
Also, which 4k would be best to buy: Prime, ITunes, Microsoft, etc.?
Wouldn't the BD still be better?

Hopefully they’ll upgrade the DCP too which is still currently 2K.

The blu-ray has an LPCM soundtrack option, so that's definitely better than the dolby digital soundtrack on itunes.

Picture quality wise I haven't seen the 4k verison on itunes/streaming, so I'm not sure. I thought the blu-ray looked good upscaled to 4k by my TV.

And who knows if it'll come out on disk. The fact that there's a 4K scan means its possible, but it seems like movies generally catered to women usually get digital only releases (I'm thinking like Little Women recently). Hopefully it does eventually because I would get it.

The streaming 4K version on Prime/Vudu/iTunes just looked like the BD but with higher res. Doesn't even have HDR... still looks as drab and flat as the BD did. Which is a shame, from the sunny California scenes to the quaint British countryside, this would do well with a good scan done with care.

My wife loves this movie!

Was trying to refresh my memory as to why I never bought the blu (have the DVD though). I think it’s because the reviews were so poor for the most part.

Wish a 4k would get released!

Quite a popular film. Maybe we’ll see it at some point.

As long as they do a new scan, the existing one on streaming isn't great.

Yeah, this movie really needs a proper 4K remaster. The current HD master on home media and streaming has a heavy brown tint all over the white balance, which causes the overall colors to look dark and very ugly, when it’s the complete opposite in the original trailers and theatrical 35mm film prints.

It’s the same issue that I have with Robots (2005) and the first two Madagascar films IMO.
