If I recall correctly.. Reliance has contracts for releasing most of the Hollywood movies in India on DVDs and BDs after Investing a huge chunk of money into Dream-works about two years back.

I believe there BDs for Hollywood movies are much better than Sony DAC, and should be close to Excel.

If I am wrong with the quality regarding Hollywood movies do correct me!

Reliance used to import BDs until recently they started doing own authoring at sony DAC. TDKR release date is 30th Nov acc. to Flipkart which is 4 days ahead of International release. Hopefully they r importing this time.

Mr. Chandna will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think he authored any English blu-ray titles for Reliance. His work for Reliance was limited to DVDs and Hindi Blu-rays only. Of course this was when Reliance was importing all their English blu-rays and things may have changed now that Reliance is authoring at least some of their English blu-ray titles in India. 'The Hunger Games' is one such blu-ray and I believe it is an abomination, since it does not even retain the original aspect ratio.

Reliance or no reliance In my experience, all hollywood blu rays released in India suck big time. Not only they are costly, they are even butchered with tampering on language/subtitles tracks, exclusion of bonus discs and even worse: censoring of scenes in some cases. MY final word, Always Import hollywood blurays. Period.

The most recent experience: In titanic 2D bluray, scene selection menu sucks. so many thmbnail images are absent. i am quite sure it wasnt originally manufactured that way. Its most probable result of inclusion of hindi tracks at local level.

+100

For new releases there's no point even bothering with Indian release, they are overpriced. Take the trilogy for example, even with Import duty deposit the trilogy will still be cheaper if sourced from Amazon US.

and as anurag clearly mentioned, its just not about quality, non inclusion of Unrated editions, omission of extras, minor editings etc. make the matters worse

India/Bollywood BD review

The disc is authored by sony.
Didnt find any major issue as the AQ/PQ was satisfactory,as per the international reviews.
The bass is very powerful in some scenes, may be it was designed like that, but nothing much to complain.

The IMAX sequences of Dark Knight rises are presented in an aspect ratio of 1:78:1 and the rest of the movie in 2:40:1. Therefore, the IMAX sequences of the movie seemed to be opened up, which results into a shift in movies aspect ratio. Same can be observed with the Dark Knight BD.

Yes. Both, 'Dark Knight' and 'Dark Knight Rises' had parts of the movie shot in IMAX with an original aspect ratio of 1.43:1. These parts of the movie are presented in 16:9 aspect ratio on the respective blu-rays.

It's time i want to purchase many English Blu rays now (most of them I've rented till date after hearing horror stories about darn pathetic-ness of them)

so my question now are the blu-ray released at par with hollywood releases ?which all manufacturer's blu rays come close to them? is the dark knight rises any good? importing is not an option for two reasons :-

1-i havn't done it before and have no idea as to how and what to do.
2- My Blu Ray player is not region-free.
(Is PS3 region free? or where do i get a region free player? and what are they priced at?) (i dont want a PC for this job)

Now these are few of the disks i want to get , anyone who has them (indian counterparts) please throw some light on them , or how do these compare to US/UK editions?

1-The dark Knight rises
2-Fast Five
3-Tron Legacy (US version has variable AR and 7.1 audio)
4-Hugo (US Version has 7.1 audio)
5-The Avengers (US Version has 7.1 audio)
6-X-Men Series
7-Tangled (US Version has 7.1 audio)
8-Mission impossible ghost protocol (US Version has 7.1 audio)

As for your second question, every Blu-ray you mentioned is region free except for X-Men (including X Men First Class). Note that the UK edition of Hugo is region locked.
The PS3 is region locked. If you bought it in India, it's locked to Region C.

Indian BDs suck for the most part. The Avengers was abysmal. The audio sounded like Dolby Digital 2.0 matrixed to 7.1 with a lossless tag slapped on top.
Most of them don't have Special Features included despite saying so on the case.
It's cheaper to import most of the time, even more so if you get the import fee deposit back (which you do 90% of the time). More importantly, it's better to spend a few hundred Rupees more and get better quality.Amazon replaces/refunds the item if there is any issue.
I recommend waiting for a week as there'll probably be loads of offers during Christmas.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask but DO NO BUY ANY BDs IN INDIA.

P.S
I also recommend The Amazing Spider-Man. It's my most favorite movie of 2012 and it's one of the best looking/sounding BDs I have.
Thank you so much for such a quick and detailed reply I'll try amazon and import region free blu-rays then.

Okay so i tried but i got the notification that that product can't be shipped to my address , so are there any particular sellers that deliver the products to other countries? what about import duty? how is that paid?

p.s what about payment , now i've placed my order and entered my credit card details but my CVV number was not asked , when i make a online payment in india, cvv number is asked and them i'am redirected to banker's website where they ask for my 3D Secure Pin , both of them were not asked by amazon?

Don't know whether this is the correct thread for my query, but as a similar discussion was going on so I would require a little light on my query.
I want to purchase four Blurays from Amazon US (Order totals 31$-without customs and shipping). I just want that my order is sent through USPS and not iparcel. I wanna know whether it is a particular amount of order or a desired no. of titles which make them eligible for shipping through USPS, as now individual orders are sent via iparcel. Also want to know that howcome before dispatch of our order, we are able to know that whether it is USPS or other courier service through which our order would be dispatched.

Link me to the product which you added to the cart. make sure that the seller is Amazon.com and not a third party seller. It should say 'ships from and sold by Amazon.com'. This is right below 'in Stock'.

Try adding this to your cart. It's The Dark Knight Rises.

http://www.amazon.com/Knight-Rises-B...k+knight+rises

On the final checkout page, the Import Fee Deposit is also mentioned on the right side where you can see every charge (item cost, shipping, etc).
Once you receive the item, you have to contact Amazon by chat and request the deposit back. But don't worry about that now, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

DO NOT ORDER A SINGLE ITEM as it will be sent by i-parcel courier which takes 2 months. Order atleast two BDs as Aramex courier will be used which takes a maximum of 10 days. This applies for Standard Shipping.

If ordering multiple items, I recommend Priority Shipping as it's only 2$ extra per item. I'll quote a few of my older posts. Give me a minute.
