WBShop Older Scooby-Doo on Blu-ray

With the March 12th release of Loch Ness Monster, Samurai Sword, Monster of Mexico, and Legend of the Vampire that puts the total to 6 pre-HD Scooby's on Blu-ray.

Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase
Aloha, Scooby-Doo
Scooby-Doo and the Legend of the Vampire
Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico
Scooby-Doo and the Samurai Sword
Scooby-Doo and the Loch Ness Monster

I'm totally digging that these are getting an OAR release (the DVDs were in 1.33:1) and I hope that it means Warner will consider release more of them, including much older titles.

From the remaining lot we still have

Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf
Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers
Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island
Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost
Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders
Chill-Out, Scooby Doo
Scooby-Doo in Where's My Mummy
Scooby-Doo: Pirate's Ahoy
Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King

And then there's even older Scooby-Doos that need releasing. I'd love to see the very first series get cleaned up for Blu-ray. The DVD were very dirty and scratchy (especially the 3rd season) and seeing them all in a new HD transfer would be awesome.

I'd like a box set for all of the shows, and another one for the movies.

Only requirement being "No Scrappy"

But several were animated in widescreen before that.

I think you may have missed Abracadabra-doo then, because I tried looking for ones on bluray before and that was the last dvd-only

I don't understand what you mean. But I forgot about Abracadabra Doo.

But according to the director it was animated in 1.33:1 and not made in HD.

1080p would make it look better than the SD-DVD though.

I think they announced a blu-ray for this somewhere but no release date. Oddly enough i thought it was edited on tape. There isn't a real 3rd season is there? I think the "3rd season" disc is just a bunch of random specials or something compiled.

I doubt Warner Bros would ever spend the large amount of money required for a decent restoration of a cartoon series though. A Blu-Ray release would be pointless, with the current transfer offered by the DVD releases.

Even the recent bonus episodes on the Blu-Ray release of Big Top! Scooby Doo! look quite bad, although I wonder if they just dumped a previous transfer on Blu-Ray, since the episodes were still in SD.

Actually the first Scooby Doo DTV produced in HD was Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase in 2001, although it was still only full frame (not widescreen).

Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase and all later Scooby Doo DTVs have been available in HD via iTunes for a long time now.

The Scooby Doo DTVs have been produced for widescreen, since Scooby-Doo! and the Legend of the Vampire in 2003.

It is great how Warner Bros. had the foresight to produce so many of their animated movies and series for widescreen and HD, from such an early date.

Where are you getting this incorrect information?

I'm gonna have to disagree. Warner Archive has remastered many H-B animated TV Shows in HD for MOD release (even though at the time they were only released on DVD, cause that was all that was available). WAC could release many restored H-B shows/tele-films in HD. And considering the popularity of Scooby-Doo, I would also think WHV would want to do it.

Assumptions.

The director of Samurai Sword and Goblin King told me they were animated in 1.33:1, not widescreen.

I would be surprised if anything released through the Warner Archive got more than a quick run through auto cleanup (i.e. DNR), which can often look much worse for older cell cartoon series. A good restoration like the Looney Tunes or Tom & Jerry shorts requires a lot of money and time, and I don't see it happening for cartoon series.

Warner Archive in particular shows how little Warner Brothers cares about their older series, with high priced DVD-R releases, which are little better than bootlegs.

The HD restorations (that are presented on DVD) appear to have a natural grain structure, in-tact. Besides, the new WAC BR release show that they can do good BR transfers.

Not to make you feel bad or anything, but everyone else has been doing it for years before Warner

Maybe for live action movies/series, but not for cartoon series, or animated movies released directly to DVD or video.

Many companies (i.e. Nickelodeon) have taken too long to go widescreen (and HD) for their cartoon series.

I've known Disney's been HD since (1996?) don't take my word for it, but thats when their DTV market started widescreen production

The DTVs from Disney went widescreen in 1998, with Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World, so makes sense they went HD around that time.

Disney didn't seem to go widescreen for their cartoon series until around 2001 though, starting with the The Legend of Tarzan and House of Mouse.

I have to point out one thing, that Where Are You, Scooby-Doo? set that's dubbed as the "third season" isn't actually the third season. For some odd reason, someone decided to attach it to the "WAY-SD" series when, in actuality, it's actually "The Scooby-Doo Show" and segments of "Scooby's All-Stars". I think Warner Brothers decided to attach it to the "WAY-SD" series because the original series had been more popular among children.

Production quality was better on the original series as well. I know a few years ago that Warner Brothers had discussed the possibility of releasing the original series to Blu-ray but that it's still in the air. I think they're making more money on the movie releases and that's why they are concentrating on those releases.

Aladdin and the King of Theives (1996) was in widescreen
