I got the steelbook & digibook of TDKR & Goodfellas, & I'm considering buying the digibooks of Shawshank Redemption & 300 even though I have the steelbooks for both. I also have two versions of Watchmen, the directors cut which was a gift & the triple feature with Constantine & V for Vendetta. To be honest, if I would have known about the digibook versions before the steelbook versions of the movies I would have never got the steelbooks, except for TDKR.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and the first two Dark Knight movies. And the only reason for that was that I bought the sets. I bought the Man With No Name Trilogy, thus replacing The Good, the Bad and Ugly, and bought The Dark Knight Trilogy, thus replacing Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. Other than that, no duplicates.
edit - Actually, technically, no duplicates ate all because I didn't keep my previous copies. Those were just the ones that were purchased more than once. |

John Carpenter's The Thing - VHS, 2 DVD releases, HD DVD and Blu. And if it gets released again, I will probably buy it. I almost owned it on Laserdisc, but I never owned a player, so didn't buy it, though I think it would look nice framed on my wall.

I have never bought multiple copies of the same movie for the sake of different packaging.
I have double dipped. Only two though: Casablanca: I own the version that comes with the gold slipcover and I own the new remastered version that comes in the large box-set. The Dark Knight: I owned the single disc version and recently bought the trilogy box-set. I usually give away my old copies though. I don't have enough room to keep multiple copies of the same film. I also do this with DVD. The only DVDs that I have kept are the original trilogy Star Wars (unedited). I own that and the Blu-ray version. Until the unedited ones are released on Blu-ray I will hang onto the DVD set. |

I dont really "get" having multiple copies of the same title. There are a few that I have 2 copies of right now, but I fully intend on selling most of them. For example, I already had the first Superman, and I bought the superman film collection. But I will be selling Superman soon. I already had the Sound of Music regular 3 disc edition, but I bought the limited edition 250,000 box set on black friday. So I'm going to sell my own copy. Will be duplicating some Bonds when I get the full set, but again...
The only one that I've duplicated that I don't plan to sell is I, Robot & I, Robot 3D. Because supposedly the straight 2d disc is better picture quality than watching the 2d version that comes in the 3d version, and my wife doesn't like watching in 3d. I guess my point is, I strive to get the nicest copy. Because I tend to buy used, sometimes I'll buy whatever version I can find used locally, and then upgrade later if need be. But when I find the nicest version I want, I will sell anything I previously got. Last edited by hsox05; 12-09-2012 at 03:35 AM. |

I like extras, and the number one reason I've got multiple copies of many movies is because many times the extras vary depending on publisher / country of origin. Packaging, specs, etc might also be a reason. Only thing I personally would find hard to reason for is having multiple copies of the exact same product. I've ended up with identical copies a few times, but then I give the extra ones away.

I bought this one at Best Buy along with my first Blu-ray player and HDTV:
![]() I found a mint-condition used copy of this one for $10 less than two months later: ![]() It makes no sense for me to own both copies, and I've considered selling off the standard edition, but I love the cover art, and I also like the idea of having a back-up copy, since Casino Royale is one of my all-time top five movies. I figure that I'll watch the standard edition most of the time, so that's the copy that I'll "use and abuse." I'll keep my Collector's Edition on the shelf except when I'm in the specific mood to watch the visual commentary feature that made me want to spring for this edition in the first place. As I have been quickly upgrading my favorite DVDs to Blu-ray, I have been selling off the respective DVDs for money to buy more Blu-rays. The exception to this is that I kept my Criterion DVDs to Jean-Pierre Melville's Army of Shadows and Le Cercle Rouge after buying the Blu-rays to both movies. Why? These movies are both on my all-time top five list along with Casino Royale, but they are not easily available in most stores. I want the DVDs as backup copies of these awesome foreign films just in case something happens to my Blu-rays. I do not normally own double-copies of movies, though. I am usually quick to sell off the initial copy of a movie if I double-dip, because I do not want anyone to call the Hoarders TV show to my apartment. |
