Default Watched my first Blu Ray movie OMFG!!!

Finaly got the my PS3 hooked up to a Plasma screen last night and watched Kingdom of Heaven....utterly blown away by what I saw

I had previously been watching standard dvds through an HDMI connected Arcam upscaling player that cost me £1000, I thought the picture I was getting out of the Arcam was excellent and that I might see a slight difference with Blu Ray. The PQ from the PS3 is incredible and way above what the Arcam can achieve.

I'm happy you are enjoying your Blu-ray high-def experience. If you can get your hands on Tears of the Sun, Crank, MI:3, etc., do so quickly! Welcome to the Blu experience!

Yep, I felt the same way about my Denon until I saw MI:3 on my PS3. And after all the recommendations I think I'll have to get Crank

Sony KDS-R70XBR2 in 1080p and the picture is phenomenol. I had a Samsung HL-R6768W (1080i). It's difficult to compare since I didn't have them side by side.

Kingdom of Heaven is still one of the best BD's I have seen yet. Not as good as Crank, but the movie itself (Crank) is strange.

Great question. I have a Sim 300e 720 DLP FP with a 100" screen. Casino Royale looked very, very good but not "wow". I then played CR on my Mits 65" 1080P DLP tv and the difference was "amazing". I know what evryone is thinking "of course it will look better on a 65" vs 100" screen" but it's more than that. The level of detail on the 1080P is astounding. So much so that I can't watch any more Bd's on my 720 FP. In another year 1080P FP's should be well under $5k for some top models.

Bottom line if you can afford a 1080P display get one. You won't be dissapointed.

Actually 780P is considered high def, just that 1080p is obviouslly the newest jump in the evolution of hd. I had a 480P TV that was "HD" at the time and is now only considered "enhanced". My new Bravia is the bomb with my Directv @ 1080i, my XBOX 360 @ 1080i, and my PS3 @ 1080 P with the Blurays!!! Loving life. To only have a 780p is no discrace either....it still makes for a nice picture.

Glad to hear your enjoying it matey!

I too, have been blown away by the quality.. I'm using 1080i.. 1080p tv's are slowly being released over here and since I upgraded in December to a HDTV.. 1080p wont be coming my way anytime soon.
I dont feel I'm missing out on much tbh.

I'm hoping we can get Crank released over here soon!

Since buying into blu-ray's I sold 47 DVDs.
Since watching Blu-Rays I am selling another 54.. I want it all in HD!!

Thanks for all the feedback. I have a phillips lcd and a sharp aquous but both are 1080i so i'm not getting the whole experience. I want either the new sharp 42 incher or the sony xbr 40. The sony's make you tear up when the Blu Ray is going. God love em! LOL.

Well of course the difference it's noticeable, 1080p is 2.25x 720p and the Blu-ray transfers are optimized for that, not like a few other "transfers" I've seen)

About watching at 100" vs 65" it's not the size that matters but the viewing distance proportion (measured in Picture Heights in movie/photography circles, and strangely in screen widths in video ones )

Compare the images at the same viewing distance proportionally, for example comparing 720p 100" at 6-8 feet* and 1080p 65" at 4-5 feet* gives you the same image size but you'll see that true 1080p detail holds up like in a movie theater and can give you that 35mm sweeping Cinematic experience. that 720p won't. That's why people sit far away from their home theaters, watching 480i upscaled to 720p and 1080p downscaled to 720p

True 1080p displays will be cheaper and cheaper everyday

*(6 for Scope and 8 for 1.78 for the 100". 4 and 5 respectively for the 65")
