Default Poor over-the-air HDTV signals

I live in a hilly suburban area about 50 miles south of Los Angeles. I get little-to-no reception using rabbit ear antenna, i would like to receive over the air HDTV. I have heard great things about the motorola signal booster "BOOSTER0506" on reviews, but they mostly focus on broadband signal boosts for cable modem, etc. Anybody have any experience with this product with over the air HDTV? My dilemma is that I currently have COX HD DVR, but honestly, I only watch ABC, FOX and CBS HD channels, so i don't like the fact that I have to pay so much in cable TV services for channels that i should receive for free.

I have a TERK OTA HD antenna that mounts on the side of the house or in the attic. The mount is very similiar to satellite dish mount. I am on the edge of the footprint to pick up the OTA HD channels out of Sacramento. An external antenna may help you to receive the channels but the real question is how far are you from the actual transmitting antennas? Use this site and put in your Zip code to see which channels would be local and available to you. I get 16 channels out of the Sacramento area on OTA.

I have been receiving OTA for nearly three years now, With the new requirements for Digital TV next year I wonder if the power will be boosted on transmitting antennas? FOX is the channel I have the most issues with in my area and I sit approx 60miles from the transmitting antennas.

unfortunately, when i used antennaweb.org, the site listed only San Diego digital stations, much much further than Los Angeles stations! Another drawback... I live on the second story of a three-story apt building so rooftop antenna isn't an option

It's starting to sound like i should just throw in the towel and keep the COX service, grrr!

This link should provide you with a great deal of info regarding OTA reception

http://www.hdtvprimer.com/

This site is way more useful than antennaweb.

Hope this info is of help to those trying to receive OTA reception.
