Default BBC ~ Blue Planet Seas of Life 4/9/2013

Has anyone heard if there are plans for the BBC to release this on Blu-ray?

I haven't heard of this coming to Blu-ray. It is possible it was shot on SD. Unbelievably the BBC has shot a new series "Life in Cold Blood" (about reptiles, amphibians, etc.). I don't believe that this has been shot in HD. If it had it would most probably been simulcast on BBC HD as well as the SD BBC1.

Absolutely unbelievable... I haven't had the patience to watch it!!!

Probably done in SD. It is a few years old and rendering to SD with computers 5 years or so ago would have been a lot cheaper than rendering to HD.

We can only hope that they'll be working on it after the release of Life. Keep your fingers crossed!

I was under the impression that Blue Planet wasnt shot in HD. Not saying it couldnt or shouldnt be released on Blu-ray, but there probably wouldnt be much of a benifit in doing so.

This is one of the few DVD's I haven't gotten rid of. Excellent series, on par with Planet Earth. Hopin it will come to blu eventually, also.

Question Discovery Channel Exclusive Blue Planet Seas of Life

Just saw that the Discovery channel is now selling a "Discovery Channel exclusive" version of the BBC Blue Planet Seas of Life series on Blu-ray http://store.discovery.com/detail.ph...56&v=discovery. I've been waiting to get this for a long time but I see that it is narrated by both David Attenborough and Pierce Brosnan, does the original series have Pierce Brosnan narrating anything or is this a Discovery channel remix like they did with Life and Oprah or Planet Earth and Mike Rowe? What are you getting here? Maybe this means a BBC release of the original is on the horizon as well?

Pretty sure it was redone with Brosnan for Discovery. I emailed them back in August to clarify about the narration and they told me the episodes will be split between the two, half with Brosnan and half with Attenborough (i think one or two eps have both).

Ugh!

Hmmm want to get this really bad but not for $70. Knock the price down to around $30 or so and Ill snap it right up. I sold off my DVD because it wasnt the best of quality when I switched over to blu thinking it would eventually come out. Keep my eye peeled for a deal in the future..

I got an email this morning from Discovery quoting a sale price of $49.99, but it's $69.99 on the website. Don't know if the price has already gone up, or if they are late correcting the website price.

Either way, I want the BBC version. Good chance that it is also on it's way, but no guarantees. Decisions, decisions...

Hopefully, we can get a review soon.

I got the same email, and the price advertised is not correct on their website. Regardless, $50 is still expensive for 2 BDs, even though the documentary is spectacular.

Oh man that is what I thought, kinda disappointing. I read on another thread that a good hunk of the film was recorded in super 16mm, so I'm hoping that all the work to get it cleaned up and transfered to Blu-ray means it won't be a Discovery channel only release. I might wait a while for the BBC and if it doesn't appear to be in the pipeline at all then go for it in a few months.

Amazon has a listing up for the BBC Version of the blu-ray but of course it says sign up to be notified when its available. Maybe thats a good sign they will get it or a different version soon in the future???

I have the 5 DVD set, which has more than the 8 episodes and has Sir David A in all of them
removing his narration from half the episodes is a real deal breaker unless i can get it for like $20, since half are that re-narrated crap.

hope this exclusivity Discovery has ends REALLY soon, since this set is lame. for now i will keep the the meh quality DVDs

I am not sure on the PQ but if you read the comments on the Discovery page it says the video quality appears to be the same as the DVD and not even remastered?! I am not even going to look for it on sale anymore and just wait until a proper BBC release is available.

Yep. On sale for $40 today, and almost bought it...until I saw those reviews...

C'mon BBC, remaster this set....

This is currently $29.99 on Discover.com, but I'd like to see more than 4 reviews to see if it's worth it.

The BBC version is now up for preorder on Amazon. Happy to finally get this but disappointed that it appears they aren't including the docs from the special edition.

I'm constantly looking towards space issues as it is and I sure don't plan to keep the box set on DVD. I could give it away and store the 5th disc with this new set, but I just rarely can bring myself to watch DVDs anymore.

Another good news, bad news release.
