Default Movies That Get Better With Age...

I have seen certain movies that upon the initial viewing just didn't quite do it for me or left me scratching my head. But low and behold it begins to grow on you and with each subsequent viewing, only improves your opinion of the film.

For me it was Austin Powers: Man of Mystery...

Ever experience that with a film?

Well, I can't think of any movies off the top of my head, but the newest Weird Al album, Straight out of Lynwood, I was extremely disappointed in on my first listen. One or two songs were alright, but the rest of the album really sucked, which surprised me a lot. But as I listened a few more times, some of the songs I found annoying really grew on my with catchy lyrics and tunes. Though At the Drive Thru still annoys the hell out of me, which is surprising because I usually love his super-long songs like Biggest Ball of Twine in minnesota and Albuquerque (woo! spelled it right on the first try!).

I totally almost made a thread like this the other day! Mine was gonna be more of......movies you didn't like(or even hated) the first viewing but then started to really like them later on.

I think your moods have alot to do with how much you enjoy a particular film.

Office Space. The first time I watched that, I thought it sucked more than a mosquito in Africa, but the second time I watched it I found it hilarious. I don't tend to have many movies like that though. Usually I'll watch a movie and think "ehh..." only to have a week or so later think it's one of the greatest things I've ever seen...the ones that happened were Fargo, Pan's Labyrinth, No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood (I'm absolutely in love with this movie now).

Matrix Revolutions
Star Trek: Nemesis
Star Trek: Insurrection

There's others that I can't think of. I've definitely noticed that if I give certain films a second chance I tend to overlook things that I hated.

The British-American production starring Jimmy Stwart, NO HIGHWAY IN THE SKY (still not out on DVD). Although I was too young at the time and first watched it years after it debuted, it was about a new civiian airliner that possibly experienced metal fatigue and crashed. Not that many years later, the new British Comet jetliner began crashing because of metal fatigue. (The Lockheed Electra years later also crashed because the stress produced by the prop-jet engines ripped the wings off in flight.) So, this film became an example of life imitating art.

But with more viewings, I was even more fascinated by the character played by Jimmy Stewart, who gets into trouble for his theories and actions even though he knows he's right, when even the whole British aircraft establishment turns against him because these startling revelations would cost them a lot of money and ruin their public image.

Fascinating character study as well as an entertaining look at flight in the early '50's. One of my two favorite movies of all time (the other, FIELD OF DREAMS).

Almost Famous
Liar, Liar
Casablanca
Anchorman (at first it was "meh" but now it's pretty damn funny)
Lost (not a movie, but as the mystery unfolds, early episodes are given new meaning)
Lilo & Stitch

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN
THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

These two are some of my favorites... about the latter; even the critics now rate it above the best movies in its time (1994)... look at AFI's revised top 100...

Diamonds Are Forever.

That movie has more amusing stuff in it than I can shake a stick at.

TRON. The movie made no damn sense to most people in 1982. Now, after 20 years of computer education, its almost quaint. Definitely a prime example of a film that time has been kind to.

First time I saw it I thought it was terrible, L.A. Confidential. I love this movie now. I hope they decide to bring it to BD.
