Default Do you like Secondhand Blu-ray's?

Just wanted to hear people opinions,
Some people do...Some people don't....

I personally don't like them, I like getting mine from amazon wrapped in plastic to take off, rather than having to pull of stickers which leaves marks.

And like my cases to look as new as possible.

For the right price I do not mind it at all. Besides a majority of the second hand blurays I have gotten have been in great condition. Though you do have a point on the cases b/c ones I have received through the mail can be chipped or broken.

For some movies I really don't care about the cases, if the disc is in great condition and the price is right I'll buy used. For old favorites and movies I really want to see/own I'll buy new.

I bought Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, used for$2.00, case and disc were in great condition.

Love 'em. Best thing about blurays is that they dont get scratched like in used dvds.

I used to buy strictly brand new DVDs, for i'm way too anal about scratches and less than "mint" cases / slipcovers, etc. Since Blu, however...i've eased up a lot, and can deal with a scuff or two on the case / slipcover, as long as the actual disc is mint. I've gotten some awesome deals on "used" Blu via Craigslist and Ebay. However, i will never, under any circumstance buy an "ex rental".

i get quite a few from cash convertors, a lot are in great condition and even a few with the plastic still on. the cash convertors price sticker refuses to come off easily so i keep a stack on replacement cases to swap over.

i always feel a bit bad as they sell them for $5-10 you can only assume the poor seller got maybe 2 bucks for it, or that ******* thief who ripped off some poor buggers collection got a$$ raped by cashies, depends how ya wanna look at it.

Why not? if its cheaper
if the case is bad i replace it for 50 cents....

I do NOT like getting ex rentals and wont buy them if the description is accurate. I dont like stickers on my discs or strange rental cases.

I've bought ex rentals before, because it was 20% off when you buy two or more from blockbusters. I buy from CEX, they're really cheap. I got Inception with a cool 3D cover for £6, but the case is ripped. The cases don't bother me as long as they have artwork. I wouldn't buy blu rays without artwork.

If you're a bargain chaser, like me - then yes, the second-hand market is essential. It can be tough, especially with a marketplace like eBay. You've just got to ask your seller plenty of questions in advance if you're a quality stickler (and if you're super-OCD, don't buy second hand!)

I've bought many of my favourite items second-hand.

I've bought a few & never had any problems with them. In an ideal world they'd all be new, but in an ideal world I'd have my own, state of the art home cinema in my castle with a moat around it. If I can get something that plays fine for £3.50, lovely.

I buy alot from the local Blockbusters in the area around Aalborg, Denmark. The best is of course to unpack a new blu-ray, but almost all of the used blurays I buy are in very good condition, and the pricetag ranging from 3-5,50£/5,50-9$is very favorable, especially when I have my own policy, stating that a movie bought shouldn't cost more 8£/13$

Besides BB, the major part of my blurays come from marketplace at amazon. Used as well, some of them in mint condition.

When I buy new blurays it its sale items. I never buy a new release straight away (price in DK: 20-22£/32-36$)

Being in Berlin at least a couple of times a year, I usually buy plenty of new titles at great prices, at least compared to Denmark (a local dealer in Prenzlauer Berg,Berlin has many new releases for 8,50£/13,50$)

I only buy 'Brand New' Blu-rays because the used ones, even in the top notch condition, have some fingerprints either on the disc or somewhere around the case (sometimes scuffs too) and there is nothing like a mint copy of bluray packed in a shrink wrap from the factory itself. Yeah, I know, I'm a bit of an OCD ....

Cheers!

In the past I've bought or traded for used blurays simply because it was a lot cheaper than buying a brand new copy. Especially when they used to be $30+.

I refuse to support the businesses who take advantage of both sellers and buyers. I prefer to support the studios directly. Like video games, I will have nothing to do with secondhand unless it's a straight trade!!!

They mean from members on here who are selling or trading blu-rays from the trading section

Don't all retailers 'take advantage' of both sellers and buyers? Amazon and Best Buy and Target all charge me more than they pay the supplier (well, at least they try to, I'm not sure it always works out that way) and I'm perfectly fine with that.

And I'm not sure why straight trades are any more acceptable. In a straight trade you've got two parties who are refusing to support studios directly. Shouldn't that be twice as objectionable?

Me? I love used BDs. I look at most of them as slightly more expensive rentals that I can watch whenever I get around to it.
