Default Does anyone know any good movies that are set in the 1930's?

Movies like Lawless and Gangster squad are both set in the 30's i was wondering are there anymore mafia type movies worth owning?

thanks

Yes, yes, and yes.

The Godfather takes place in 1945; pretty close to the indicated timeframe.

Miller's Crossing is another decent period gangster piece, I just don't know what exact era it takes place in.

There's always Bonnie and Clyde.

Here's a few that are set in the 1930s. They were also made in the 1930s:

The Public Enemy
Little Caesar
Scarface

Mobsters

The "worth owning" is debatable, but this one otherwise fits the category.

While a specific year is never given, Miller's Crossing takes place sometime during the prohibition era. (1920-1933) It is one of the best modern day gangster films. It just might be the Coen Brothers best.

Last Man Standing.

If you're looking for comedy, Johnny Dangerously could be one to try also.

What about the films based on Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler's novels?

It may not be a movie, and it's also in the 20's- not the 30's, but you've got to check out...

The Maltese Falcon did come to mind. I just wasn't sure if it's considered a straight-up gangster film.
