Well picture quality doesn't matter if you like movies enough, but clearly you don't.

I think the Dredd movie uses a different technique for creating a 3d version of the film verses what the typical 3d movie gets released uses. So, the PQ/AQ shouldn't suffer. If I am understanding the process of rendering 3d versions for home viewing.

Pan-&-Scan VHS should suffice for you, then!

That would honestly be fine with me, as long as I can watch a great movie I could care less what format it is in. Most film buffs should feel this way.

Let's all give him a break. Afterall, I doubt Boromir cared much about picture quality, himself.

If that was the case, we wouldn't have DVDs or blurays. HD films and lossless audio would not be big in Hollywood. Film buffs are why the quality of the film is where it's at right now.

Actually he might have since he did grow up in Gondor.

That doesn't make any sense to me. The reason Blu-ray and DVD exist is to make money. The average consumer always wants the newest and the best stuff out there. Film buffs didn't have anything to do with it, it all had to do with money.

Okay, I see your point, but think about it. Even if money is what's pushing it, the film buffs are what's buying a large chunk of them, so it's still film buffs to thank for where we are, even if you look at it from that perspective.

Depends on how the disc is encoded.

Personally, I'd prefer to have two separate disc. Not so much on video quality, but rather picture optimization.

What I mean of course, is to adjust the brightness to compensate for the 3D glasses.

Having 3D and 2D on the same disc means you can only optimize one or the other. Not both.

You do make a good point. Not many normal people would go out and buy huge collector sets like we do. But I know many people who spend their money on the Blu-ray format just because it is the newest and best format you can get. Without people like them, I am not sure if Blu-ray would have gotten this far.

sure i could watch my favorite movies in any format, but do i want to? Hell no. bluray or better from here on out for this buff. even poor transfers on bd distract me these days. i mean come on. why did we buy hd tvs, hdmi cables and blu ray players? because they are the newest thing? no because they present our favorite movies like we've never seen them before. oh yeah, 3d and 2d on the same disc is blah.

I was more saying the average consumer does that. Of course I want to see my favourite movies in the best format possible. But honestly If I could just watch them on V/H/S that would be fine by me.

Yes, blurays and DVDs are made to make money, but the need to create the discs would not matter if VHS is enough to satisfy the needs of the movie lovers. Now a days VHS is cheap due DVDs and blurays. DVDs became popular for its cheapness to VHS and for certain movie buffs the PQ/AQ quality matter. If someone is a car buff, do you think just any car would be there prefer choose. No, that want a car with certain features. A vhs or dcd film just presence the film, at the expense of quality. Bluray and 3d aren't quite popular to make DVDs nonexistent. They are still expensive when compared to DVDs and VHS.

id say the average person is still watching dvd. oops i might have helped prove part of your point.

personally, i just cant watch crap formats any more. when i go to a friends house and i have to sit and watch a dvd on their $20 dvd player (connected to an hdtv of course), i just cringe (but i make it look like a smile). who are we to tell you what you like? enjoy.

My view of a movie buff is more restrictive than what people considers. I know for most people they only care about watching the movie, which is one reason why digital copy and streaming is popular.
