Default Samsung LNT4681F or new 6 series

I'm looking to upgrade my lcd and have settled between these 2. The main difference that I can see is that the contrast ratio in the new 6 series is 50,000:1 where as the 81F is 25,000:1 (not exactly sure). The only reason I'm not dead set on the new 6 series is that it's about $300 cheaper then the 81F series (being on sale at best buy for 3100). Why is the new ones cheaper? Oh this is for a 46in btw

I'm planning on getting one of the new Series 6 or Series 7 Samsung LCD HDTV's personally.

Like you said they're gonna have better contrast ration and all the features of previous Samsungs...

Plus they're just around the corner if I'm not mistaken so it wouldn't make sense to me to buy older technology when the latest stuff is about to hit the market.

id recommend either 71f or 69f

if its a bright room, go 69f, BASICALLY the same thing as the 71 (less contrast) but it has no glare. the 71f and 81f has the glare of a plasma.

Newer models generally come out cheaper simply because as more parts are ordered and the manufacturing process gets better, production costs go down. HDTV's have dropped in price like a rocket in the past 3 - 5 years and will probably continue to do so with China's explosion of manufacturing plus their massive work force.

Go with the 71f...I've got one and am ABSOLUTELY in love with it. Best purchase I've ever made. Picture is unreal...

seems I have been mistaken. The lnt4681F according to bestbuy has a 500,000:1 contrast ratio which seems a lot better then the 6 series. Although the 6 series has a 4ms response time versus the 8ms in the 81f. I'm pretty much dead set on a samsung since I enjoy my 720P sammy, I just want the best one around $2700, but like everything else it seems that a few 100s more is sometimes worth it.

advertised contrast ratios are one of the biggest scams in HDTV's. dont pay attention to them. I've seen two TV's using the same dynamic rating system, one having "4000:1" and one having "15,000:1", and the 15000 looked like there was more purple then black.

only way to judge contrast ratios is to watch a dark movie on the TV, and see which ones do the best job making the color black AND still creating enough detail to actually see whats in those dark areas (I.E. seeing an object in a dark shadow). Also look for the color black AND NOT a dark purple instead. just look at an olevia, that is the definition of a bad contrast ratio.

^^True, but this is what I've heard. There really is no industry standard when measuring contrast ratio. However, it should only be taken into consideration when comparing 2 tvs from the same brand. True?
