$7.88 at Amazon now. Wondering if I should get it.
Love the movie and don't own it on DVD, but the picture quality on the BD is sounds abysmal. I bought The Hustler in anticipation for this release a while back, but couldn't pull the trigger on this for $15 with the terrible reviews. I heard it's a regular in the Walmart $7.88 dump bins but have never found it (I literally look for it every time I'm there). |

This is not true, I have the DVD and it is anamorphic. If you can find it I would recommend the DVD over the blu-ray. The transfer really is as bad as they say.

It's more likely that your TV is set to detect letterbox content and zoom in automatically. My last television could do this.

I watched this last night and the transfer isn't as bad as the reviews here indicate. Definitely not a great transfer, but I would give it 2.5/5 instead of 1/5. At least there is definition in the picture and the print is clean. It could be done better but it was not unwatchable. I've seen much, much worse (see "The Hills Have Eyes" 1977 version, for example)

The reason I'd say The Color of Money is worse, and why you can't compare it to The Hills Have Eyes, is that Money was shot 35mm with a decent budget. Hills was shot 16mm on a low budget, therefore it will always look rather rough, just like the original Chainsaw. There's certainly room for improvement, but even the best transfer of Hills will never equal the best transfer of Money. That said, Money has more room for improvement, since it looks almost identical to the DVD (both films were struck from old DVD masters) and in some cases, worse.

I'm a bit curious, as reviews of this Blu say it's essentially a horrid transfer. Would the digital download from Amazon be the same? I simply ask because I watched Vision Quest, one of my fave 80's movies tonight on HD, and it was a very clean looking transfer, as the DVD transfer is abominable. Any chance Color might be better digitally?
