I remember this distinctly being the last Disney movie I saw in theaters until Meet the Robinsons. I don't think it was bad, it grew on me like Hunchback of Notre Dame did, but it's got some big flaws.

Different strokes, but Brother Bear is only second to Home on the Range on my "close my eyes and hold my nose at the cash register" list. I'd take Atlantis in a heartbeat over Brother Bear.

For my money, Chicken Little is still Disney at their lowest.

Tough fight between that and Dinosaur. At least no one got killed making Chicken Little.

Bottom Five (in no order)

Robin Hood, Dinosaur, Home on the Range, Brother Bear, Chicken Little

Different strokes indeed, if not technically well done, I at least find a great deal of heart and enjoyment out of both Brother Bear and Dinosaur. Brother Bear was the closest in theme to the 90 era films during the horrible early-2000's time frame. I am particularly fond of Dinosaur. Between the gorgeous visuals, spectacular soundtrack, and likable characters, it's one I don't understand the immense hate.

Yes, camera operators were on a camera crane "boom" shooting a live action background plate for the movie, and the crane operator swung them into high-voltage power lines. One man died, the other was badly burned.

I actually liked Dinosaur, and could sit through Chicken Little.

Home on the Range was their lowest, IMO. I feel like Disney thought it was bad because it was hand-drawn, but it was bad because it had bad jokes, bad music, generic characters, an anti-climactic story and was only 76 minutes.

Chicken Little wasn't good, but it felt like an improvement after Home on the Range. Not a big improvement, but I think Disney was slowly getting better and better and they've been pretty solid since Tangled.

I forgot Brother Bear was coming out at the time I posted it. Atlantis easily makes it into my top 20 disney films. Brother Bear does not.

I don't rate Brother Bear very highly, but since I consider it a very likable film nevertheless, I'm always surprised at people hating it..

Hey, Disney got their game back with Princess and the Frog, not Tangled.

It's mostly that we've all seen the characters and story a hundred million times before. Dinosaur is one giant storm of tired clichés, that's what makes it bad. Virtually the only thing I really liked about it besides the visuals is the cool old ladies.

It's a pity about Dinosaur, really. The opening of the film, with the egg travelling, is actually fantastic IMO. Visual storytelling at its finest. Then those damn dirty apes had to open their mouths and everything just fell apart...

+1+1+1

The person who decided to make the animals talk killed what could have been a very inventive Disney classic. Even with the lazy plot, cut the dialogue and it could have been good. The dialogue + that cheesy plot just make it one of Disney's worst in my book.

My top 5 worst Disney movies currently are (5 being least awful, 1 worst)

5. Fun and Fancy Free
4. Make Mine Music
3. Dinosaur
2. Home on the Range
1. Chicken Little

The person was Michael Eisner. He insisted on it. The original plan was to tell the movie without dialog. Eisner nixed it, and that's what killed the movie (in my opinion). I met one of the producers at Disney/MGM (when it was still Disney/MGM), and he asked me what I thought about Dinosaur. I told him the film was gorgeous, I just thought the dinosaurs should have been silent. "Well, they're going to do that." he said. I then brought up Bambi, how there's comparatively very little dialog, and his eyes sort of glazed over as he stared at me.

EDIT
He actually looked a little sad and regretful, come to think of it...

That's incredible. You making the comparison to Bambi, hilarious. They must have felt so bad afterwards.

I KNEW IT, by the way. ****ing Eisner.

At this rate I'm a little worried about Peter Pan, let alone these coupons, I think we might get one for Peter Pan, but for the package titles it will be another: "buy 2 get $8.00 off." sort of thing.

Wow just realized this joins the March 12th 2013 rosterful of releases. I'm gonna have to hold this one out depending on what Disney Movie Club offers at that point in time ...
