Bumping for some help here. I'm looking to get some bookcases now. Been on IKEA only right now. The Billys (discussed above) seem okay but Amazon mention earlier isn't available anymore and the Argos one doesn't fit my colour scheme. What are people buying these days?

I posted pictures back in September of my new units from Amazon that I'm very happy with. After years of living in a flat with Blu-rays stacked everywhere realise I should have bought something like this much earlier.

£70 from Amazon Pigeon Hole storage

Link is for the light wood version. I went for black version.

Yeah, black is what I want! I'm looking around for somewhere else that sells them.

i'm looking for a small shelf unit (say about 4/5 shelves high of dvd shelf, about 3/4 of a metre wide) that is also cheap - does anybody have any like this?

Custom built or self built stuff is the best as it fits the space you want it to. But if you're too tight or too dangerous with a saw consider Ikea's Besta system, its flexible, can be fitted with a variety of glass or coloured doors and accommodates two ranks of blus on each shelf. Ikea's Borgsjo looks pretty promising too. If you want better quality than Ikea try Hulsta

Thanks for the kind words fellas.

Snooloui, the shipping would cost more than the shelves, lol.

Nofro, by American standards they were expensive, however I can't speak for the UK or Europe. They cost me AU$1315 for each shelf plus $95 delivery which I thought was very reasonable, that price is close to standard for large solid timber (Tasmanian Oak) shelves here in Australia. In fact based on what I saw from months of looking for suitable shelves, they were cheaper than most.

Anymore ideas? I'm leaning towards this one now but that's mainly due to a lack of black options.

I bought 2 billy bookcases from ikea £35

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70104099/

Look very nice, tall and depth is fine for me. You can add more shelves if you want and they very easy to move/adjust.

Im planning on taking pics soon. The one in my gallery is of argos unit.

Got loads of space free now, even with 330 odd blurays.

I really wanted the Billys but my dilemma is they have to be 195 or shorter in height!

You can get them in 106cm height versions - all except the black version. Just click on the size/colour drop down menus. You can also get these height extensions which can take the bookcase up by another 35cm (and couple of rows).

On the storage front, I have finally decided that having a seven foot bookcase of 400-ish films DVDs that I rarely use isn't good use of space and have given in to getting one of these from Amazon:

Holds 504 discs. Never thought I'd see the day when my library wasn't on display. My girlfriend, however, is delighted.

Giving in and getting rid of my DVD cases leaves me spineless in at least two ways.

(My other, equally-packed, bookcase of TV DVDs is staying though, so I haven't completely given in).

I solved my too-deep shelving problem by glueing a wooden slat onto each shelf, so the cases couldn't move too far into each shelf. The deeper shelves aren't as likely to tip over.

I read that "black" in a Bruce Wayne voice

If you add in two of the extensions you can get it to 176cm. But yes, the blackness would still be a problem. It might be worth keeping an eye out though if that sounds like a solution as it may be that the black version is just out of production at the moment.

So I've changed my mind now and gone for an oak entertainment unit so now looking at matching media storage units. Problem is I did want two matching units but they all seem so short, if their width is perfect. I basically need to two at 195cm (height) x 78cm (width) storage units, at max, or I'm now looking for a matching storage unit and bookcase. Preferably a very large storage unit, then a thin bookcase, just to make it look complete. Any ideas?

This is the unit I've bought for my TV.
