Default Hansel & Gretel? Jack & the Beanstalk? REALLY???

Did I just see trailers for Hansel and Gretel and Jack and the Beanstalk? Holy lack of ideas, Batman. They just make everything into a movie. Whats next? Jack and Jill? Itsy Bitsy Spider? Little Boy Blue?

Better yet, they always manage to shoehorn a big battle scene into these films even though there was never one or doesnt need to be one. Hilarious. These are the films that will make up future MST3K or maybe MST4K fodder.

What is the point of this thread?

And as for lack of ideas, well aside from the Abbot and Costello Jack and the Beanstalk and Mickey and Beanstalk there really hasnt been a Jack and the Beanstalk movie before.

And as for Hansel and Gretel the biggest version of that story(the 1989 musical with David Warner and Cloris Leachman) didnt even play theatrically in the states.

I don't care that they're making a hansel and Gretel movie, I just really wish Jeremy Renner didn't get sucked into it. It's going to be terrible.

Bryan Singer might do good for the beanstalk one. It seems to have a better story.

Hollywood writers are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel - when they have to resort to this crap.

I guess I'm easily amused as I will happily pay to see both of them. I even enjoyed The Brothers Grimm film...for shame!

The Jack and the Beanstalk movie is actually a big budget remake of Jack The Giant Killer. Which is based on a novel. So I wouldn't really consider it an outright Jack and the Beanstalk movie. The 1962 movie is pretty damn entertaining. And MST3K recently did a Live Rifftrax Release of the film.

Although with Bryan Singer, that's more of a "Yes and no." As in, "Mostly NO. "

(slight pause for conspicuous absence of Munsters-remake joke.)

The Singer movie may have been a neat-stuff remake before it was, um...mutated, but yeah, Hansel & Gretel was trying to cash in on March Scary-Tale Madness.
(So was Disney's Oz movie, and the studios deliberately put Singer's Jack movie in close-proximity harm's way)

It's all one big blur to producers: They're still trying to figure out why Tim Burton's Alice made all that danged much money in March '10, so their nearest guess was to count how many fangirls went to see Johnny Depp, assumed it must've been "some kinda Twilight thing" about wanting to see "dark fairytales", and then went out to do the Twilight Version of Red Riding Hood, and two empowered versions of Snow White.
Either the March tales will run out before the box office or vice versa, but I'm guessing is the last big year we get 'em. The box-office disappointments are racking up, and Alice's free-ride ticket is one hole short of a full punch.

I wouldn't mind if there was a Hansel and Gretel movie but the whole idea of them being witch hunters is just...wow...

They should just make a film with an array of short stories / fables.

Hansel and Gretel: Which Hunters looks like tons of zany fun. My only gripe is that it seems that Gretel will be diminished to a damsel-in-distress role halfway through the flick.

I only saw one teaser for Jack the Giant Killer and it left me cold. Hopefully it'll be good but I'm currently unconvinced.

Well... at least they're not remakes... YET. It's a bit of an improvement.

On the note of fairy tale movies, it's a shame Terry Gilliam got dicked over by studio heads when he tried to make The Brothers Grimm, it could have been a fantastic movie.

I'm really surprised nobody has relaunched Sinbad since the rise of Pirates of the Caribbean, seems like it would be gold.

Yeah, plus we're in the dump months. I have zero expectations for Hansel and Gretel.

Wasn't there one in the works a while back. Or did that end up in production hell?

Yes, but that's starting to be an old refrain from him. Maybe if he had tighter reign on his productions and not allow them to go over-budget, studio heads would stop "dicking him over".

The only reason they're making these is that fairy tales are in the public doman thus studios don't have to pay a dime in licencing fees.

As a big fan of the Grimm collection of assorted stories and a sucker for the scary or atmospheric movies from this time period, I'm all in. I'm hoping H&G and Jack turn out to be very good movies.
